Union Public Services Commission (UPSC) yesterday, June 16, 2021, announced the dates for the UPSC Engineering Services Examination (ESE) 2021 Preliminary exam. The schedule and timings for UPSC ESE/IES 2021 prelims have also been published on the official website upsc.gov.in. Accordingly, the Civil Services Engineering exam is scheduled for July 18, 2021. The exam comprises of two papers – Paper I from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and Paper II from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. As the timings suggest, Paper I shall be for 2 hours while Paper-II shall be held for a duration of 3 hours, covering different verticals of engineering.
UPSC IES/ESE 2021 prelims are scheduled to be conducted on Sunday, July 18, 2021, as published by the authorities on the official website upsc.gov.in. Paper I and Paper II shall cover different subjects pertaining to the engineering field. Paper I is the General Studies and Engineering Aptitude Paper for a duration of 2 hours. It shall contain objective-type questions for a maximum of 200 marks.
Paper II shall cover Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics and Telecom Engineering subjects. This is a discipline-specific paper to be conducted for a duration of 3 hours. The paper shall be held for a maximum of 300 marks and candidates shall be asked questions based on their chosen engineering discipline during undergraduate education.
Previously, On April 07, 2021, UPSC release the notification for the ESE 2021 preliminary examination. Subsequently, the last date to register for the examination was April 07, 2021. However, the exact examination schedule was yet to be decided due to the uncertainty and hurdles caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that the pandemic is stabilising, the exam is scheduled to be conducted in a month’s time.
Candidates who qualify the UPSC ESE/IES 2021 prelims shall be required to appear for the mains exams. Thereafter, shortlisted candidates will have to appear for the interview round and based on their overall performance in the selection process, candidates shall be recruited under four categories – 1. Civil Engineering, 2. Mechanical Engineering, 3. Electrical Engineering, 4. Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering.
UPSC shall be conducting this recruitment drive for a total of 215 vacancies for various groups such as Survey of India group ‘A’ Service, Indian Defence Service of Engineers, Indian Skill Development Service, Indian Naval Armament Service, Central Engineering Service (Roads), Indian Radio Regulatory Service, etc. The commission shall also create reservations for various categories including SC, ST, OBC, EWS, PwD under various vacancies.
