Scholarship money in India overwhelmingly follows the engineering and medical streams. A girl who has just joined B.A., B.Com or B.Sc. usually finds that the good private scholarships either want a JEE rank she never sat for, or are not open to her course at all. The SDEF Shiksha Shakti Scholarship 2026-27 is built specifically to close that gap.

Launched by the Swami Dayanand Education Foundation, Shiksha Shakti — “the power of education” — offers ₹20,000 per year, renewable for the full length of the degree, to first-year girl students in non-technical undergraduate courses. There is no entrance exam requirement of any kind, and 200 scholarships are awarded across India every year.

Applications opened on September 5, 2026 and close on October 31, 2026 — leaving about six weeks. Here is the complete detail a student needs before opening the form.

Eligible Courses: The List Is Wider Than You Might Expect

“Non-technical” here is not limited to plain B.A. and B.Com. SDEF’s published list for 2026-27 covers nine categories, including several professional-sounding degrees that the foundation’s engineering-and-medical scholarship does not accept:

StreamEligible degree
Arts & HumanitiesB.A. (all streams)
CommerceB.Com
Science (non-engineering)B.Sc. — Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Maths and similar
Business AdministrationBBA
Computer ApplicationsBCA
Journalism & Mass CommunicationBA JMC / BJMC
Hotel ManagementBHM
Law (integrated)BA LLB / BBA LLB
Other approved integrated courses—

BCA, BBA, BJMC, BHM and the integrated law degrees are worth calling out, because students in these courses routinely fall between the cracks — too “professional” for arts scholarships, not technical enough for engineering ones.

Who Can Apply for the Shiksha Shakti Scholarship

Every one of these conditions has to be met:

  • You must be a female student — this scholarship is for girl students only.
  • You must be enrolling as a first-year, full-time undergraduate student in an eligible non-technical degree programme in India for 2026-27.
  • You must have scored a minimum of 80% marks (or equivalent CGPA) in the Class 12 board examination.
  • You must not have taken a drop or gap year after Class 12.
  • Your total annual family income must be ₹12,00,000 or less, counting all sources.
  • You must provide complete, accurate information with all required supporting documents.
  • You must be willing to take part in document verification and any further selection stages if shortlisted.

Who Is Not Eligible

  • Male applicants — the scholarship is for female students only.
  • Students already in the second year or later of an undergraduate programme.
  • Students in a part-time undergraduate programme.
  • Students who took a drop or gap year after Class 12.
  • Applicants who do not meet the academic or income requirements.

How Much You Get, and for How Long

Unlike SDEF’s engineering and medical scholarship, which scales the award by entrance rank, Shiksha Shakti pays a flat ₹20,000 per academic year. SDEF states this plainly: because no entrance examination applies to non-technical courses, there are no rank-based award tiers.

What varies is the duration, which follows the length of your degree:

Course lengthExampleTotal support
3 yearsB.A., B.Com, B.Sc., BBA, BCA₹60,000
5 years (integrated)BA LLB, BBA LLBUp to ₹1,00,000

Money is disbursed once a year, directly into your college or university account, and must go toward approved educational expenses. SDEF is explicit that funds are never paid into a personal bank account.

Selection Process: Three Stages, No Online Test

This is a meaningful difference from SDEF’s other programme. Shiksha Shakti has no online assessment — selection runs in three stages:

  1. Application review by SDEF Scholarship Administrators.
  2. Document verification.
  3. Personal interview, if shortlisted.

Practically, that means no aptitude test to prepare for and no need to arrange a laptop and stable internet for an assessment — a real barrier removed for students in smaller towns. It also puts more weight on the quality and clarity of your documents.

SDEF warns that plagiarism, false information, forged documents and undisclosed AI-generated responses may result in disqualification. Every answer must be your own work, and each applicant may submit only one application.

Documents You Need to Keep Ready

Eleven uploads are required. SDEF warns that unclear or unreadable documents make an application incomplete, and incomplete applications are not reviewed — so scan carefully before you start.

  1. Recent passport-size photograph
  2. Aadhaar Card
  3. Class 10 marksheet
  4. Class 12 marksheet
  5. Admission letter
  6. College ID card
  7. Latest college fee receipt
  8. Family income proof
  9. Utility bill — electricity, water or gas
  10. Three photographs of your residence
  11. Signed SDEF Scholar Pledge form

If they apply to you, also keep ready agricultural land documents, education loan papers, an ITR, salary slip or salary certificate, and pension proof. Note that no entrance exam scorecard is required — one less document than the India Scholarship asks for.

Start with the Scholar Pledge. It must be printed, signed and re-scanned, so it is the one item that cannot be arranged at the last minute. Download it at swamidayanand.org/s/SDEF-Scholar-Pledge.pdf.

EventDate
Applications openSeptember 5, 2026
Last date to applyOctober 31, 2026
Selection notificationsMid-November 2026
Funding beginsJanuary 2027

SDEF says it is not able to make exceptions to the published deadline. The form does let you save and resume, which is the sensible way to handle eleven uploads.

Preference for First-Generation Students and Government School Girls

SDEF says preference may be given to first-generation college students and to applicants who studied in Government or Government-aided schools. These are factors weighed during selection, not separate eligibility requirements — but they are worth knowing, because they signal the kind of applicant the programme is built for.

Students from agricultural families may apply, provided they declare the family’s land holdings and attach supporting documents.

Renewal Is Not Automatic

SDEF reviews every scholar’s academic progress and continued eligibility each year before approving renewal. To keep the scholarship, a scholar must remain enrolled full-time in the eligible programme, have no academic backlogs, maintain satisfactory academic performance, complete the Scholarship Renewal Application Form each year, supply academic records on request, and report any significant change in academic or financial circumstances.

The scholarship can be discontinued partway through the degree if these conditions are not met, or if false or misleading information is provided.

How to Apply for SDEF Shiksha Shakti Scholarship 2026-27

  1. Go to the official page: swamidayanand.org/shiksha-shakti-scholarship-2026-27
  2. Download the SDEF Scholar Pledge, print it, sign it and scan it.
  3. Scan all eleven documents and check each one is clear and readable.
  4. Click Apply — Fresh Applicants and fill the nine sections: Welcome & Eligibility, Personal Details, College Details, Academics, Academic Achievements, Family Details, Income & Occupation, Financial Information, Documents Upload, and Declaration & Submit.
  5. Save your progress as you go, and submit well before October 31, 2026.

Applications are accepted online only; paper and emailed applications are not accepted. SDEF’s applicant handbook does not list any application fee. The full 19-page handbook, with the form walkthrough in English and Hindi side by side, is at swamidayanand.org/s/SDEF-Shiksha-Shakti-2026-27-Applicant-Handbook.pdf.

Shiksha Shakti vs SDEF India Scholarship: Which One Applies to You?

SDEF runs two India programmes with the same October 31 deadline, and they do not overlap. Use this to work out which one is yours:

Shiksha Shakti ScholarshipSDEF India Scholarship
WhoGirl students onlyAll genders
CoursesNon-technical: B.A., B.Com, B.Sc., BBA, BCA, BJMC, BHM, integrated lawB.Tech/B.E., MBBS, BDS, Nursing, Pharmacy, B.Arch, BVSc
Entrance examNot requiredRequired — JEE AIR 50,000, NEET AIR 50,000, NATA 100+
AwardFlat ₹20,000 a year₹20,000 to ₹50,000 a year, by rank and marks
Total value₹60,000 to ₹1,00,000Up to ₹2,00,000
Awards a year200100 to 150
Selection3 stages, no online test4 stages, includes online assessment
OpenedSeptember 5, 2026August 15, 2026

Both share the same Class 12 bar of 80%, the same ₹12 lakh family income ceiling, the same no-gap-year rule, and the same October 31, 2026 deadline. Full details of the other programme are in our report on the SDEF India Scholarship 2026-27.

One point of arithmetic worth noticing: Shiksha Shakti gives out 200 awards against the India Scholarship’s 100 to 150, and asks for no entrance exam. For a girl student in a non-technical course who meets the marks and income bars, the odds here are comparatively good.

About the Swami Dayanand Education Foundation

SDEF is a registered non-profit established by the Garg family in 2014, led by Ashutosh Garg, an engineer based in Sugar Land, Texas. It began awarding scholarships in 2015 with 116 awards for students at IITs and NITs, and has since expanded across disciplines. The foundation says it has awarded more than 1,100 merit-cum-means scholarships to date and that 100% of donations go directly to scholars, with no overhead or administrative fees. It was recognised as a GreatNonprofits Top-Rated Nonprofit for 2026.

Shiksha Shakti sits alongside SDEF’s existing girls’ scholarship commitment — the foundation already reserves 30% of awards under its other India programme for women.

Shiksha Shakti Scholarship 2026-27 FAQs

Can boys apply for the Shiksha Shakti Scholarship?

No. Shiksha Shakti is for female students only. Male students in eligible professional courses should look at the SDEF India Scholarship instead.

Do I need a JEE, NEET or any other entrance exam score?

No. Because the scholarship covers non-technical programmes, no entrance examination is required and no scorecard needs to be uploaded.

Is BCA or BBA eligible?

Yes. Both BCA and BBA are on SDEF’s published list of eligible non-technical programmes, along with BJMC, BHM and integrated law degrees.

I scored 78% in Class 12. Can I apply?

No. A minimum of 80% marks or the equivalent CGPA in the Class 12 board examination is a hard eligibility condition.

I took a gap year after Class 12. Am I eligible?

No. A drop or gap year after Class 12 makes an applicant ineligible for this programme.

How many scholarships are given each year?

SDEF’s applicant handbook states 200 scholarships a year. Its eligibility page gives the figure as a range of 150 to 200. Either way, it is a larger pool than the foundation’s engineering and medical programme.

Who do I contact with a question?

Write to [email protected] or call +91-120-4146823. SDEF’s India office is at A-74, Ground Floor, Sector-2, Noida-201301, Uttar Pradesh.

All scholarship details in this report are as published by the Swami Dayanand Education Foundation on its official website and in its Shiksha Shakti 2026-27 Applicant Handbook. Students should verify current dates and criteria on the official portal before applying.
