In reply of Dr Santnu Sen, Minister of Railways, Commerce & Industry and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Shri Piyush Goyal has published a statement. This statement discusses the vacant positions in the Railways zone wise from the year 2016 to 2020. According to the available data, there are around 278206 vacant positions in Indian Railways as of the year 2020. Moreover, 121539 eligible candidates are empanelled for the appointment in Railways as for the year 2019-2020.
The statement regarding vacancy positions in Railways is recently published by Shir Piyush Goyal while addressing starred questions no. 585 raised by Dr Santanu Sen. As per the reports, Dr Sen asked questions regarding the total positions vacant in Railways, Zone wise and year wise from 2016 to 2020. Also, he raises questions regarding the details of total new jobs given in the Indian Railways and by when Government is planning to fill these vacant positions.
Answering the first question asked by Dr Sen, Railway Minister has provided details in the tabular format. It discusses the zone wise and the year-wise number of non-gazetted vacant posts in Railways from the year 2016-2020. Around 217369 vacant positions were recorded in the year 2016 as on April 01, 2016. The next year, that is April 01, 2017, the number of vacant positions were 220137. In the following year which is April 01, 2018, the number of vacant positions in Railways was 250410. In the year, 2019, vacant positions were total 292284. Lastly, the data of the year 2020 records 278206 vacant positions in Indian Railways.
The Ministry also shared the details on the number of candidatures who were shortlisted for the Railways (Zone-wise and year-wise). According to the report, Railways hired 25740 eligible applicants in the year 2016-2017. In the following year of 2017-2018, 25546 candidates were shortlisted. Around 16237 aspirants were selected in the year 2018-2019 for Indian Railways under various zones. Lastly, in the year 2019-2020, 121539 eligible applicants were shortlisted by Railways.
Addressing the last question Dr Sen on Government’s Plan on filling the various vacant positions in Railways in the next three years, the statement by Shri. Piyush Goyal discusses in-depth about the ideas. It states that the “occurrence and filling up of vacancies is a continuous process”. The Railways fills up the vacant positions with the assistant of recruitment agencies as per the requirements. The two recruitment agencies of Indian Railways namely Railways Recruitment Board (RRB) and Railways Recruitment Cell (RRC) continuously work on the recruitment of eligible candidates. However, the arising of vacant positions is an ongoing process which arises due to retirements, promotions, deaths, resignations etc. Moreover, 03 Centralized Employment Notification (CENs) advertising 1,40,640 vacancies under Group C are recently issued.
