Recruitments in cooperative banks in the Uttar Pradesh State will now be done by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS). The decision has been taken by the government of UP Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath. This step has been taken considering various complaints related to the previous recruitment process in Cooperative Banks.
So now it has been decided that the IBPS will conduct the recruitment for Co-operative Banks. IBPS generally conducts the recruitment test for Public Sector Banks (except for SBI) and Regional Rural Bank (RRB). The tests are conducted for recruitment for the post of Specialist Officer, Probationary Officer/ Management Trainee posts, Clerical. However, for RRB, it conducts the test for recruitment for the posts such as Officer Scale- I (Assistant Manager), Office Assistant (Multipurpose), Officer Scale-II (Manager), Officer Scale- III (Senior Manager).
A senior official from the government told that the recruitment in the Cooperative Bank has been held by UP Cooperative Institution Service Board. However, in the past, many questions have been raised about its recruitment process. The CM has sought a report in this regard.
The Co-operative minister Muneer Bihari Verma told that two types of proposals were sent for future activities related to the recruitments. Firstly, recruitment work should be maintained by the institutional service board. Though it is no longer in the picture for conducting the recruitment, however, it will still be handling Promotion and Regularisations. Secondly, recruitment in SBI and other banks should be handed over to the IBPS.
The IBPS will perform tasks such as appointing, regularizing, promoting and relocating. So it can be expected that the as the recruitment test is held for RRB and other Public Sector Banks in India by IBPS, the same procedure shall be followed for recruitment in Co-operative Banks in UP.
However, more clarification can only be done once the IBPS releases the notification. The number of vacancies. posts, Name of the banks, etc will be notified in the notification only. The application form is generally available online at the official website of IBPS, ibps.in. The candidates will first ensure that they fulfil the eligibility criteria and then they shall have to fill up the details and submit the application form online.
The selection procedure differs from post to post. For example, the selection of candidates for the post of Probationary Officer/ Management Trainee posts is on the basis of Preliminary and Main examination. Whereas for Regional Rural Banks, the candidates are shortlisted on the basis of the Prelims and Main examination followed by Interview.
So, the selection procedure for the UP Cooperative Banks can only be confirmed later with the release of notification. However, it can be expected that the IBPS shall conduct written test for the recruitment. One important point to note is that the candidates are shortlisted for the post solely on the basis of merit in the recruitment test.
IBPS is governed by a board that includes nominees from Government organisations such as the Reserve Bank of India, Ministry of Finance Government of India, Indian Institute of Technology Mumbai, Indian Institute of Banking and Finance, National Institute of Bank Management, Indian Banks’ Association and the public sector banks.
As per the statistics given on its website, in the year 2016-17, a total of 1.51 crore candidates registered for the various IBPS examinations. The number clearly indicates that more and more candidates are interested in the job in Banking Sector. The Online Test conducted by IBPS have proved that they are absolutely fair, transparent and test the job-relevant skills, aptitude and knowledge.
