What to Do After Round 1 Allotment
Under the 2026 scheme, a candidate who gets a seat chooses one of these options:
- Freeze: you are happy with the seat and do not want an upgrade. Report in person to the allotted college with original documents.
- Float: you want to keep the seat but try for a better one in Round 2. Give willingness for upgradation on the MCC portal and join online. The college verifies your uploaded documents online, so no visit is needed.
- Free exit: do not join the seat. You keep your security deposit and can fill choices again in Round 2 with your old login. You lose any claim on the Round 1 seat.
Both Freeze and Float candidates must upload clear scans of their documents on the MCC portal, ideally within 2 to 3 days of the final result. A seat allotted in Round 2 or later carries forfeiture of the security deposit if not joined. The refundable deposit is Rs 25,000 for unreserved AIQ candidates, Rs 10,000 for SC, ST, OBC and PwD candidates, and Rs 2 lakh for deemed universities.
Documents Needed for Reporting

State Quota Counselling Runs Separately
The other 50% of seats in government colleges, and seats in state private colleges, are filled through state counselling on each state’s own portal. Candidates can take part in both.
