The Ministry of Education tweeted few hours ago that the upcoming UGC NET 2021 exam has been postponed. The Ministry has posted a snapshot of the official notification. The notification is expected to be updated on the official UGC NET website i.e. ugcnet.nta.nic.in soon. The UGC NET December 2020 Cycle (May 2021) exam was scheduled to be held from May 02 to 17, 2021 on a national level. As per the notice, the exam now stands postponed.
The MoE’s official tweet regarding postponement of the UGC NET May 2021 exam reads “Keeping in mind the safety & well-being of candidates during #covid19outbreak, Minister of Education, Govt. of India Shri @DrRPNishank has advised @DG_NTA to postpone the UGC-NET Dec 2020 cycle (May 2021) exam“.
A snapshot of the official notice has also been posted on Twitter by the Ministry of Education. As per the notice, the UGC NET May 2021 exam for the December 2020 cycle was scheduled to be held as per the aforementioned dates covering 81 subjects. The examination is held to determine eligibility of otherwise qualified candidates to apply for recruitment as an Assistant Professor or award of Junior Research Fellowship or both.
The notice reads “…looking at the present situation of the COVID-19 pandemic and also taking into account the safety and well being of the candidates and examination functionaries, it has been decided to postpone the UGC NET December 2020 Cycle (May 2021) Examination”.
The NTA is going to release the revised dates of the exam in due course of time. The notice confirms that new dates will be announced at least 15 days before the exam date. Candidates have been advised to keep visiting the official website i.e. ugcnet.nta.nic.in for further updates regarding the exam. It may be noted that the National Testing Agency has been conducting the UGC NET exam twice a year every year. However, as the COVID-19 pandemic hit the Indian shores in 2020, the June 2020 examinations were delayed and were conducted from September 2020 to November 2020. As a result, the December 2020 cycle exam was also postponed and was scheduled to be held from May 02 to 17, 2021. However, with the official confirmation from the Ministry of Education, the examination now stands postponed till further notice.
Registered candidates are advised to stay safe and utilise the time to prepare for the exam better. The UGC NET is held as a Computer Based Test for a duration of 3 hours. There are two papers in the exam containing a total of 150 objective type questions. Candidates are advised to keep visiting the official website for any further updates regarding the exam.
