Varsha Gaikwad, the Education Minister of Maharashtra, has announced the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2021 schedule after receiving approval from the government. Reportedly, the exam is scheduled to be conducted between September 15 and December 31, 2021. Candidates who pass this state-level eligibility test shall receive a certificate with lifetime validity. This is a great relief for individuals who are looking to pursue a career in teaching. An announcement regarding the Maharashtra TET 2021 was recently made via Twitter by the state education minister.
MAHA TET 2021 examination is being conducted to recruit more than 40,000 teachers for classes 1 to 8 within the state. According to the tweet by the state education minister, Maharashtra is providing an opportunity for candidates who aspire to work in the teaching field. The state government has permitted the Maharashtra State Council of Examination to conduct the MAHA TET 2021 between September 15 and December 31, 2021. This eligibility test is going to be conducted in 2021 after a gap of two years.
According to reports, more than 10 lakh candidates will be appearing for the MAHA TET 2021 examination. Gaikwad further stated that this exam shall help improve the employment rate in Maharashtra. Those who clear the exam shall function as full-time teachers in standards 1 to 8 in various schools across the state.
The Sept-Dec time period specified by the education minister has been allotted for the entire process of MAHA TET 2021. In other words, events such as the registration process, the release of admit cards, conduction of written exam and announcement of results – all will take place during this period. While the period has been specified, the exact dates and timeline are yet to be announced by the Maharashtra exam council.
Teachers in Maharashtra who have already cleared the TET 2021 exam in 2013-14 shall be issued lifetime validity certificates from the council without appearing for the exam. Additionally, according to the orders issued by the National Council for Teacher Education, (NCTE), teachers who clear the test this year will receive lifetime validity certificates as well. Therefore, they would not have to clear the exam every 7 years to renew their certification.
NCTE during its 50th meeting had stated that three main factors had severe implications on the teachers’ employment – 1. Previous validity of the test (7 years), 2. Frequency of conducting these tests and 3. A number of teachers successfully passing the MAHA TET exam. Considering all these factors, NCTE decided to increase the validity to a lifetime. Furthermore, those who received their certificates in or after 2015 would not have to give the exam again. Their current certificates shall be treated as valid.
