The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has concluded the second shift of the second day of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2022. The second shift took place in the afternoon session from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM in which the Chemistry (CY) exam was held. GATE 2022 exams are being held in fully computer-based test (CBT) mode. Quite similar to this, the Chemistry paper followed an objective-type pattern. Since the examination got over, candidates seem to be in search of the answer keys that are now being released unofficially.
How and where to check?
Usually, it takes time for the official answer keys to be released on gate.iitkgp.ac.in. However, in the meantime, candidates can make use of the unofficial ones that are available on platforms such as YouTube. Here are the steps that one can follow to get the answer keys.
Step 1- Open YouTube at youtube.com
Step 2- Type ‘GATE 2022 Chemistry answer key with solutions’ on the search box
Step 3- A host of videos containing question paper solutions will appear
Step 4- Go through them and evaluate one’s performance.
The soft copies of the answer keys may take some time to be out. A reason behind this is that the entire examination is held in the CBT mode. So, for some reference, here are the direct links that can come in handy for calculating tentative scores.

Exam Pattern
The Chemistry paper followed an objective-type pattern. Moreover, the overall pattern of questions contained Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. A duration of 03 hours was given to solve the paper.
Questions in the exam mainly tested the candidate’s recall, comprehension, application, analysis and synthesis skills. There were a total of 65 questions asked in the exam. However, these questions were divided into 10 from General Aptitude (GA) and 55 from Chemistry. The marks distribution in the paper is done as per the criteria given below.
- General Aptitude (GA) – 15 marks
- Chemistry (CY) – 85 marks
As a result, the total marks of the question paper stand at 100. There will be negative marking in the Chemistry exam. For every 01 mark MCQ, 1/3 marks will be deducted and for every 02 mark MCQ, 2/3 marks from the question will be deducted. Using this marking scheme, one can easily calculate a tentative score. Reportedly, the official answer keys may be released by the third week of February, 2022.
