Students appearing for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) Examination 2022 were given hope as the Supreme Court agreed to see the plea filed by Sir Umesh Dhandhe. This was however crushed as the bench chaired by Justice DY Chandrachud, Surya Kant, and Vikram Nath decided that the decision of conducting GATE 2022 will be handed over to the governing body i.e. IIT Kharagpur, and dismissed the plea.
Along with this, the bench also conveyed that the plea for postponement of the GATE examination barely 48 hours before the scheduled exam is replete with the potential for chaos and uncertainty for students who’ve registered for the exam. Today is the 3rd of February, 2022, and postponing the exam would be the harbinger of anxiety and disruption amongst the students.
The bench gave this decision on February 3, 2022, and explained that the judgment will be an injustice to those who have already completed prepared for the exam. The court is not supportive of anything that makes a mockery of a student’s career so far the importance of the GATE examination stands.
IIT KGP was already in favor of conducting the examination offline thus based on this, students must get ready to appear for the GATE 2022 Examination which will be held on February 5, 6,12, and 13, 2022. Students are enraged by the Supreme Court’s decision. This plea was made due to the sudden rise in COVID-19 cases which initiated the third wave. 9 lakh students appearing for a test via offline means will further increase the risk of getting infected.
Many states have introduced new restrictions under the pretext of the third wave. This will cause a whole new problem for candidates to commute to the examination center for the test. Candidates have expressed that these reasons were entirely neglected by the apex court, and they feel as if it were a “disgraceful” decision. Many candidates used social media platforms like Twitter to express their rage and anger at this “unjust” decision.
Thus the saga of “Postponement of GATE 2022” ends on a sad note. Candidates must start their last moment revision and also keep their exam day bag ready. To ensure that the exam is conducted smoothly, IIT Kharagpur has also taken several, necessary steps in this regard. The institute issued a travel pass earlier this week so candidates do not face any hurdle while reaching the examination venue. Furthermore, an instruction video has also been released explaining the exam-takers all the essential steps to take care of.
