Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineers (GATE) 2022 was conducted for the stream of Petroleum Engineering on February 13, 2022, in the morning session of 9:00 -12:00 hrs. The response sheet of the same will be available on the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) portal from February 15, 2022. The provisional answer key for GATE 2022 will release from February 21, 2022. It will be published on the official website of IIT Kharagpur GATE, namely http://www.gate.iitkgp.ac.in. The final result will be published on March 17, 2022, and candidates will be able to download the scorecard from March 21, 2022.

GATE 2022 Answer Key Petroleum Engineering (PE) – Official
Students can follow these simple steps to download the preliminary answer key, once they are available-
Step 1. Visit the official site of IIT GATE i.e. gate.iitkgp.ac.in
Step 2. Click on the link named ‘GATE Answer Key 2022’ present on the homepage.
Step 3. Enter your credentials such as Enrollment Id and password.
Step 4. The answer key will be displayed on the screen
Step 5. Download it in PDF format and print a hard copy for future reference.
The answer key provided at first is provisional. Candidates are advised to examine the answers carefully. If any discrepancy is found, it can be reported in the GOAPS portal under the ‘Contest Answer Key’ Section, by paying a sum total of INR 500/-.
The syllabus for Petroleum Engineering includes Petroleum Exploration, Oil and Gas Well Drilling Technology, Reservoir Engineering, Petroleum Production Engineering, Offshore Drilling and Production Practices, Petroleum Formation Evaluation, Oil and Gas Well Testing, Health Safety and Environment in Petroleum Industry, Enhanced Oil Recovery Techniques, and the latest trend in Petroleum Engineering. Other sections include General Aptitude and Engineering Mathematics, having respective weightage of 15 % and 13% respectively. The exam is of the duration of 3 hours and comprises 65 questions. The total number of marks is100, of which 72 are from the core subjects. The exam comprises Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Numerical Ability Questions (NAT). There is no negative scoring for MCQs and NATs, while for MCQs ⅓ portion of the marks are deducted for wrong answers.
As per reports, 2500- 3000 applicants appear for the GATE PE exam yearly. After qualifying for the exam, students can be recruited in the Public Service Undertakings (PSU) such as HPCL, ONGC, GAIL, PGCIL, etc through further written tests and personal interviewing. Candidates can also go for higher academic learning, and pursue post-graduation. GATE scorecard can be used variedly to advance a student’s career.
