The Graduate Aptitude Test Engineering (GATE) 2022 will be organized by IIT Kharagpur next year. This year, students have to appear for a total of 29 subjects. Two new papers have been introduced which are Geomatics Engineering and Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. Some crucial information regarding these newly introduced fields are being discussed here which can be useful to aspirants wiling to apply for these subjects.
GATE is a national level examination that tests candidates’ knowledge of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering and Science to take admission in the Master’s program. Earlier this year, GATE 2021 introduced two subjects – Environmental Science and Engineering and Humanities and Social Science. Following a similar trend, IIT Kharagpur will also introduce two new subjects for GATE 2022. These are Geomatics Engineering and Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.
Geomatics Engineering deals with the “management of global infrastructure” by measuring, collecting, monitoring and archiving geospatial data. In simple terms, Geomatics Engineering is an engineering department that surveys the entire or part of the earth with different techniques and results in spatial data. Thereafter, this data is evaluated and expressed in maps and helps in planning in a commuter environment. Geomatics Engineering helps in the production of various maps and spatial data for defence, planning and other uses. Currently, Geomatics Engineers are in demand not only in the country but also abroad. So, candidates who have to build their career based on this Engineering Departments can apply for the same.
Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering is a little different from Geomatics Engineering. It is a mixture of two different branches that work with the ships and allied structures. It creates techniques and equipment that helps to implore the ocean floor and the underlying ocean resources. Candidates graduating from this course will have to design the vessels and maintain the safety of ships and other equipment.
As of now, IIT Kharagpur has not released any official notification for GATE 2022. Hence, it is hard to define the eligibility criteria for Geomatics Engineering and Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. Candidates should wait for the official announcement by the conducting body.
It is expected that GATE 2022 notification will be out in July 2021. Online registrations for the entrance examination will take place in September 2021. Candidates applying for the GATE exam 2022 can take admission in Masters in Engineering, Science Architecture Technology, Doctoral Degree. Some Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) also recruit eligible candidates based on GATE scores.
