IIT Kharagpur has update an important note on GATE 2022 website, where it says ‘the GATE 2022 examination may be postponed or cancelled’. However, the complete notification presents the actual picture. Hence, candidates must read the full note before jumping to any conclusions.
If you go to gate.iitkgp.ac.in, and scroll down to the footer, you will come across this new notification on GATE 2022:
The health and safety of our examination participants is of utmost priority. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic situation, all dates mentioned in this website may change. In rare cases, the GATE 2022 examination may be postponed or cancelled due to situations beyond control.
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2022 is tentatively scheduled for February 05, 06, 12, and 13 2022, across national centers. The admit cards were released on January 15, 2022. However now, two major developments have happened:
1. The international centres of GATE 2022 stand cancelled. Yesterday, the authorities notified that given the surge in the pandemic cases, the examination on all the international centres has been cancelled.
2. This new important note hinting postponement of exam has come up.
GATE 2022 examination may be postponed or cancelled – What does this mean for candidates?
The notice on the official website says GATE 2022 examination dates can be changed. Also, in rare cases, the authorities may take the decision of cancelling or postponing the examination too. Although, this does not mean that GATE 2022 has been postponed or cancelled. It simply means that if the situation does not become conducive then the authorities may take this decision. The notice also stated that all test takers have to be partially or completely vaccinated for COVID-19. Check out the complete notice available on the website here:

When contacted IIT Kharagpur remained unavailable for comments regarding this whole matter.
Earlier, a group of 23,000 students signed an online petition demanding the postponement of the GATE 2022 citing the worsening condition of the pandemic. The students put forth their demand by giving a reference to the study of IIT Kanpur professors as per which the 3rd wave is expected to peak by early February 2022. Since the examination was scheduled for the first week of February 2022 hence fearing their safety students urged the authorities to consider their demands.
Once this news broke, candidates took Twitter to support this postponement decision and have been tweeting their own reasons using hashtags like #GATE 2022, #postponeGATE2022. The students are asking authorities to simply reschedule the exam dates, check out some of the latest tweets below:
