Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has successfully conducted the VIT Engineering Entrance Exam (VITEEE) 2021 on the first exam day, today. There were four slots namely 1A, 1B, 1C, and 1D. They were held from 8:30 am, 11 am, 1:30 pm, and 4 pm respectively. Each slot was concluded in 2 hours. Tests were held without any significant issues for engineering aspirants all over India.
This is the first time that VIT held the entrance exam as an online remote proctored examination, keeping the health and safety of students as topmost priority. Despite the mode being a first time, no critical issues were reported by candidates who took the tests today. The success of the same is owed to the multiple mock test runs that were held before the actual exam.
While it has been addressed in the past that the exam is proctored, which means that it is monitored, the concern of cheating attempts exist in a new exam mode.
In the case of a take from home exam, the biggest concern when it comes to cheating attempts, is cheaters and would-be cheaters trying to take images of the question paper and getting answers from peers.
In order to address the concern of questions being shared via screenshots, the VITEEE 2021 test on codetantra platform now displays application id of the test taker. Thus making it easy for the organizers to strike down on miscreants, and also deterring candidates from trying to cheat.
The exam is human proctored. Which means that invigilators sitting thousands of miles away are able to monitor the candidates. The proctor also asks, from time to time or in cases of suspicion, to show 360 degree view of the room.
An important point to be noted is that the exams are monitored even after the end of the test time.
Earlier this month, VIT had published a document titled “VITEEE-21 Online Remote Proctored Examination(ORPE)– Information and Guidelines“. Point #j under the section “General Guidelines for the smooth Conduct of ORPE” in it says:
The complete audio / video streams will be recorded and analyzed during post examination.
Which means, that the candidate’s test audio and video have been recorded. And even if proctor has missed any suspicious event during the exam, the same will be scrutinized after exam.

The post-examination processes is expected to mainly comprise of this scrutiny. The exam itself was MCQ based and are auto-evaluated, thus leaving no requirement for revaluation and such time taking processes.
Once the post-examination processes conclude, VIT will declare results via SMS and the official website, tentatively in the first week of June. Meanwhile SRM declared the results of its entrance examination today. Those who appeared in the SRM Joint Engineering Entrance Exam can check the SRMJEEE 2021 phase 1 results at srmist.edu.in.
Besides VITEEE and SRMJEEE, other important engineering entrance exams underway are KIITEE, AEEE, GITAM GAT, and KLEEE. The biggest exams for B.Tech admission, JEE Main and JEE Advanced are as of now postponed till further decisions are taken regarding class 12 board exams.
