UPSC Mains Essay Paper 2021

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has conducted the first day of the Civil Services (Main) examination today. Earlier yesterday, the Commission had declared that the examination will be held as per the schedule and there would be no postponement. After the completion of the examination, the candidates seem to be in search of the question paper and its analysis.

UPSC Mains Essay Paper 2021 Topics

The essay portion of the UPSC Mains paper had two sections namely A and B. Candidates must note that there are four topics under each section of the question paper. The topics that were included in Section A are:

#1. The process of self-discovery has now been technologically outsourced.

#2. Your perception of me is a reflection of you; my reaction to you is an awareness of me.

#3. Philosophy of wantlessness is Utopian, while materialism is a chimera.

#4. The real is rational and the rational is real.

Similarly, from Section B, the topics that were included are:

#1. Hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.

#2. What is research, but a blind date with knowledge!

#3. History repeats itself, first as a tragedy, then as a farce.

#4. There are better practices to “best practices”.

Analysis

As per the experts who have analyzed the essay section of the UPSC Mains paper, Section A is seen to be quite similar to that of the previous year. This section mostly had philosophical questions just like 2021. These types of topics are thought-provoking and the candidate has to spend some time thinking. Such type of topics requires the aspirant to follow a particular direction of thought and not deviate from that course.

Furthermore, the experts say that the candidates have to quote current examples that are related to the topic. The topics under Section A are mostly connected with that of the first GS paper while the topics under Section B are related to the second GS paper. It is noteworthy that the topics under Section B are from the historical point of view.  However, at least one topic in this section is somewhat related to Science and Technology. For 2022, the second topic, i.e. ‘What is research, but a blind date with knowledge!’ is related to this perspective.

More analyses regarding the essay section of this paper can be accessed from YouTube as well. So, aspirants can head straight to youtube.com and type ‘UPSC Mains essay 2021 paper analysis’ and go through the videos that appear thereafter.
