On August 21, 2018, a historical decision might be made. As per the newspaper reports the idea of scrapping JEE Advanced examination is to be discussed at the IIT council meeting scheduled on August 21, 2018. Along with taking down JEE Advanced exam, there are also talks on scrapping the IIT flagship B.Tech courses and converting IITs into high-end institutes that offer post-graduate education and only certain semesters of teaching to nearly 80,000 students a year instead of the current 10,000 plus. However, how much is this idea feasible is yet not clear, this will be only possible after the IIT council meeting.
This idea has come from some eminent faculty members of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). This idea is aimed at checking the multi-million IIT coaching industry and to take IIT-level teaching to more students, as per various reports.
Qualifying JEE Advanced and taking admission in IIT B.Tech courses are considered almost a sacred deal. However, puts a bit of more pressure on some candidates. Thus, the idea further suggests that admission in IIt can be based on JEE Main scores only. The top candidates of JEE Main can be admitted to the IITs without any further tests or interviews. Also, the idea adds that the JEE main results should classify all candidates into 10 groups based on marks range with all students in one range (say 80%-90%) treated as equal.
IITs are basically working towards transforming themselves into high-end education provider of the nation and this idea is in that regard. Now, as per this idea, the B.tech programme at IITs is to be changed with one semester IIT experience.
Admission to this semester-long experience into IITs will be for the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th semesters of the B Tech programme (i.e., for the third and fourth year) and will be based on the performance in an examination based on NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning).
Students will enroll in this one semester IIT experience, will get degrees issued by their universities which explicitly mention the IIT semester experience. Such students will also get a preferential admission into IITs to do an M.Tech degree, given that they complete their bachelor’s degree with high marks.
What are your opinions – Is this idea feasible? Let us know what are your thoughts on this in the comment section below.
ok only one examination JEE Main for admission IIT’s and NEET for MBBS/BDS
Excellent idea.admission through jee main only. IIT for pg only. Or one semester experience.
If you see practical industries all contribution from nit and other institutions.
It will be advantage to the students. They need to prepare only one exams for each course. It is welcoming idea.
That’s really a good thought and let students learn what they like and want and not what they get.and that too with such dignified institute like IIT which teaches the subject with intricate details to the advantage of overall personal growth too
Yes, idea is feasible and should get implemented. There are so many exams after 12th for Engg. This will reduce the burden on students. Also more student’ss IIT dream can come true.
Yes it is very very nessasary because of the trillion coaching institutes earnings and to return the childhood of the students. I belong to a poor family. I got second rank in district and 18th in UP in up board intermediate examination 2018. Like many science stream students I also want to do engineering from IIT or not. For it I have to take one year drop and I have no problem in taking a year drop. But the problem which comes before me is money. Because the coaching institutes wants 1.5 Lacs and it is not at all affordable for me. So I am doing self study only and not doing any course like bsc n all.
There should be a change that on the basis of jee mains score and board’s PCM percentage, IIT or nit or any other govt institute should be given.
That’s my opinion
IIT will loose its superiority and every Tom, Dick and Harry will boast of an IIT affliation. Ultimately we are screwing up the Students
I think This idea can bring a big change ,in our country
The so name couching brands, can be put down as there Moto had changed , instead of providing knowledge they just provide note , short tricks
So that students can solve the paper
Certainly it’s a good thought because students are facing lot of stress by writing examinations for various stream of courses.
No…jee advanced should must and then only quality students will get admission otherwise quantity will more with less quality then no company will show their interest to took them in placements and also the standard of main exam is less compared to advanced ..so this idea is not good…so many students in iits also not getting placements in core Fields then what is the use to increase its intake to 80000…?
How can you compare 4YEAR B. TECH, a flagship course of IIT, one of the best in the world, with only 1 semester experience?
This will take back India 50 years
A foolish decision…
IIT Main is enough to get admission in IITS.
But scrapping admissions in IITS completely is foolish idea as thousands of students dreams would turned into very sad feelings. It is students right to become IITian by doing B.tech in IITS.
You cannot eliminate coaching centres by srapping B.tech courses in IITS.
No , it is a bad idea. Although the students sometime face difficulties, but the dream of getting into a prestigious IIT helps them to study more, thus getting more knowledge. Indire tly the competition increases their knowledge. Moreover, if students are admitted 8 time more than present number(10,000) then more will be unemployed. So even after paying the high end fees of IITs they would not be able to get a nice job.. This will surely affect ranking of IITs in the world..
