JoSAA Round 4 Allotment – Freeze, Float or Slide?
After checking your JoSAA Round 4 seat allotment, candidates must respond before the deadline with one of three options:
- Freeze — Accept the allotted seat and stop upgrade consideration. Admission is finalised at the current institute.
- Float — Accept the current seat while remaining eligible for a better institute in Round 5. Current seat is protected.
- Slide — Accept the seat and seek a better branch within the same institute in Round 5. Available only if the candidate was not allotted their first preference branch.
Candidates must also pay the Seat Acceptance Fee — Rs. 35,000 for General/OBC-NCL/EWS and Rs. 15,000 for SC/ST/PwD. Missing this payment deadline causes automatic cancellation and disqualification from Round 5.
Round 5: The Final JoSAA 2026 Counselling Round
JoSAA Round 5 on July 16 is the last seat allotment round. Candidates who selected Float or Slide in Round 4 will be considered for upgraded seats or branches. After Round 5, no further changes are possible. Remaining vacant seats at NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs will then move to CSAB special counselling rounds. IITs do not participate in CSAB.
Branches with expected seat movement in Round 5 include Mechanical, Civil, Metallurgical, and Biotechnology Engineering. Branches like CSE, AI, Data Science, and ECE at top NITs are likely to see minimal movement with tightening cutoffs.
