National Testing Agency (NTA) is expected to announce the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) 2021 results soon on the official website neet.nta.nic.in. Results will also be hosted on other official portals such as nta.ac.in and ntaresults.nic.in. After the SC order permitted NTA to announce results for approx. 16.14 lakh candidates, aspirants can expect their scorecards to release today, October 30, 2021, or within the next 1-2 days. On the basis of the obtained score, the reservation policies and tie-breaking criteria, authorities will be releasing the merit list after result-declaration.
While waiting for the NEET 2021 results to come out, candidates can take a look at the tie-breaking criteria applicable for NEET 2021 results. Due to a change in the paper pattern, the tie-breaking criteria has also undergone a few changes. Candidates must also take note of these changes to understand how their merit rank will be affected.
According to NEET 2021 information brochure, there is a possibility that two or more candidates can score the same marks. In such cases, tie-breaking criteria will be applicable. The first criterion is the marks obtained in the Biology section (Zoology and Botany). A candidate who scores higher marks or percentile in this section will be given a higher rank. If the tie still persists, the aspirant who scores higher marks or percentile in chemistry will be given a higher position in the NEET 2021 merit list. Finally, candidates with less proportion of incorrect attempted answers will be given a higher rank in the merit list.
Till last year, marks obtained in Biology, Physics and Chemistry were considered individually to break the tie between two candidates. The order of considering subjects was either Biology > Physics > Chemistry or Physics > Biology > Chemistry. Thereafter, if the tie persists, a candidate’s age was considered to break the tie. Invariably, older candidates were given a higher rank compared to younger ones. This year, however, age is not being used as a tie-breaking criterion. After considering the individual subject marks, the number of wrong answers is being taken for breaking the tie.
NEET 2021 results were expected to come out in the second or third week of October 2021. However, due to the Phase 2 registration process, results were delayed. Adding to this were the court proceedings and controversies that further postponed the entrance exam results. However, now that all these aspects are sorted, candidates can expect their results to come out anytime soon, finally ending their anticipation and anxiousness.
