JEE Main 2021 to be held with ‘Fortnight’ gap – What this means? And how long will exam be postponed?

Previously, the two sessions of JEE Main 2021 were scheduled to be held in April and May 2021 but were indefinitely postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

WBJEE 2021

The Ministry of Education is currently venturing into the possibility of conducting the remaining two sessions of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2021 in July and August 2021 respectively. Both sessions shall be conducted with a “fortnight gap” between the two tests, which means within the duration of 15 days. Subsequently, the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) 2021 shall be conducted in September 2021, just like last year. However, these are mere speculations, and the final decision is expected to come out soon. Currently, the ministry is reviewing the possibility of conducting a full-fledged, centre-based national-level exam amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

An important possibility under consideration is to provide a 15-day or fortnight gap between the two consecutive sessions. To cite an example, if the first session ends by July 14, 2021, the second session shall begin from August 01, 2021. Candidates who qualify the JEE Main 2021 examination and appear in the top 2,50,000 ranks shall be eligible to give the JEE Advanced 2021 examination. The exact schedule for JEE Advanced examination is also expected to come out as soon the JEE Main schedule gets fixed.

Previously, on April 18, 2021, NTA announced the indefinite postponement of the remaining two sessions of JEE Main 2021. The sessions which were scheduled in April and May 2021 were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, now that the country is recovering from the second wave, the education ministry is considering the possibility of conducting the two sessions in July and August 2021, respectively.

According to reports, JEE Advanced 2021 shall most likely be scheduled in September 2021, if the JEE Main 2021 sessions are completed in the last two months. Last year, JEE Advanced was conducted on September 27, 2021. The same schedule is expected to follow this year, resulting in another year of delay in the academic calendar.

CBSE announced its objective criteria on June 17, 2021, for evaluating Class 12 students rather than conducting offline exams. After receiving clarity about the evaluation pattern, the emphasis on the revised schedule for JEE Main and NEET 2021 increased further. Students are now, ardently waiting for the education ministry to take a call, relieving them from uncertainty. Aspirants are expecting a decision to come out in the next few days.

As regards NEET 2021 revised date is concerned, it is obvious that the national-level medical entrance test shall not be conducted on August 01, 2021. While NTA is yet to break silence on this subject, it is next-to-impossible for approximately 15 lakh students to register and receive their admit cards within a month’s span. Based on the speculations surrounding JEE Main, NEET 2021 is likely to be held in September 2021. Last year, the exam was conducted on September 13, 2021, and results for the same were announced on October 16, 2021. Candidates can expect a similar schedule to be followed this year and continue their preparation, accordingly.
