Dr. Dharmendra Pradhan, Education Minister of India, has announced the exam date of JEE Advanced 2021. The exam will be held on Sunday, October 3, 2021. On his twitter handle, the minister announced, “JEE (Advanced) 2021 examination for admission in #IITs will be held on the 3rd October, 2021. The examination will be conducted adhering to all Covid-protocols.“
JEE Advanced 2021 is the national level engineering entrance exam for admission to IITs. Previously, the exam was scheduled to be held on July 3, 2021. However, due to the pandemic as well as multiple postponements of the JEE Mains exam, the initially planned exam date had to be postponed. The new exam date now stands three months later than its original schedule.
IIT Kharagpur is the organizing institute for the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced this time. The institute has already released the information brochure, and list of documents required for the exam.
The IITs have provided a special relaxation in eligibility this time – Students who had registered for JEE Advanced 2020 exam, but were absent in both papers, are directly eligible to appear in JEE Advanced 2021. However, they will need to register for the exam. This provision has been specially created considering the issues faced by candidates during the exam last time.
What Next?
At the moment, students who will be appearing for JEE Main 2021 4th attempt, need to focus on that. The 4th attempt of the JEE Mains will be held on August 26, 27, 31, 2021, and September 1, and 2, 2021. Other than that, those who have already appeared in 1st, 2nd, 3rd attempts can start preparations for the JEE Advanced.
Registration for the JEE Advanced exam will begin only after result of the 4th attempt as well as overall All India Ranks for the JEE Mains get announced. This is expected to happen by mid-September. It will be with the AIR of JEE Mains, that it will be clear who has qualified for the JEE Advanced exam and who is not.
Top 2,50,000 successful candidates of the JEE Main can apply for the JEE Advanced. This number includes 101250 open candidates, 25000 Gen-EWS, 67500 OBC-NCL, 37500 SC, and 18750 ST.
How students reacted to the exam date announcement
The tweet by the Edu Minister received mixed responses from candidates.
However a significant number of responses demanded preponing the exam. One twitterati commented, “Need to prepone the exam to finish by mid Sept, so that the classes can start by 1st Oct in all UG courses. The JEEM could be completed by 20 Aug and JEEA by mid Sept.“

Whereas some, who are appearing in multiple exams were seen to be getting frustrated by the closeness of dates of exams. On this, one tweet reads, “JEE MAIN 4 is scheduled from 26th August to 2nd September. ICAR UG exam is scheduled for 7,8,13 september. NEET is on 12 september. When student will prepare himself? Those who will give Neet on 12,he/she will be travelling to a different city to sit in exam. No time for ICAR!!“
In the same twitter thread, students were seen demanding the postponement of NEET UG 2021 to October. However MoHFW has clarified that there are no plans to defer NEET UG or PG exams.
