Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi is going to conduct JEE Advanced 2020 on May 17, 2020. The entrance exam is conducted for admission in 23 IITs. Last year, the exam was conducted by IT Roorkee.
On a meeting held on September 15, 2019 the IIT Joint Admission Board (JAB) made several key decisions for conducting JEE Advanced 2020. One of the newest introduction in the entrance exam is that it will now be held in United States for the first time. To conduct the test at US, an examination centre will be set up in the San Francisco area.
On conducting the exam outside India, the IIT JAB, Prof V Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi, said that this will encourage cultural diversity on their campuses. The exam is conducted in five countries worlwide and the decision to add the US to the list will only benefit the campus.
Another major and important change that has been introduced is that the number of takers have been increased. Unlike past years, top 2,40,000 candidates from JEE Main were deemed to be eligible for appearing in the JEE Advanced exam. However, now the number has been increased by 10,000. This menas that from next year onwards, top 2,50,000 students (including all categories) from JEE Main 2020 are going to be shortlisted to appear in JEE Advanced exam.
Next change is in the time schedule for the test. JEE Advanced 2020 is going to be held for Paper 1 and Paper 2. Paper 1 will start from 9:00 AM and is going to end at 12 noon (IST). The second paper will be conducted from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM (IST). Earlier, Paper 2 used to start at 2 PM, however, now it is scheduled to start at 2:30 PM. This will allow the students especially the PwD candidates, more time between the two papers. Furthermore, this will also help in conducting biometric verification at the centres in a timely manner, as stated by Prof Siddharth Pandey, Organizing Chairman, JEE (Advanced) 2020.
This time Board has decided to discontinue exam centres in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) and Colombo (Sri Lanka) for JEE (Advanced) 2020 due to absence of candidates in these two cities. in the year 2019, JEE Advanced centres were also set up in Dubai (UAE), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Kathmandu (Nepal), Singapore and Colombo (Sri Lanka).
