The state government of Assam has officially deferred the Class 10 and Class 12 board exams this year. The decision has come in response to the adverse conditions related to the COVID-19 pandemic in India. Concerned candidates and parents may note that the state board’s Class 10 and Class 12 final exams were scheduled to be held from May 11, 2021. However, in latest official notices released by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council and the Board of Secondary Education, Assam, both the exams has been postponed.
Board of Secondary Education, Assam has indicated in the official notice that the Class 10 exams has been postponed owing to the pandemic. The notice reads In view of the prevailing situation of COVID-19 in the state of Assam, it has been decided to postpone the HSLC/AHM examination 2021, scheduled to be held from 11 May, 2021.
In addition to the above, in another notice by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, it has been notified that the Class 12 exams has also been postponed owing to the pandemic. The notice reads, It is for information of all concerned that due to the prevailing COVID-19 pandemic situation, the Higher Secondary Final examination, 2021 , scheduled to be held from 11/05/2021 has been postponed until further order.
As per reports, the rate of COVID-19 positivity in the state of Assam has been in the range of 08 to 10 percent in the recent past. It was reported by major media sources that the deadly pandemic has affected even the remotest regions of the state. It was also reported by media houses that certain section of the parents and students’ community has been demanding the Board to conduct the examinations in the online mode. In this context, SEBA secretary, Suranjana Senapati was quoted saying that it is not possible at the moment to conduct the Board exams in the online mode. In addition, chairman of AHSEC Dayananda Borgohain was also quoted by major media sources saying that there is no question of promoting students without conducting exams.
Both the Class 10 and the Class 12 exams has been indefinitely postponed by the state government. There has been no indication in the official notices as to when the board exams will be conducted. However, Board of Secondary Education Assam has indicated in the official notice that the health department will be consulted before announcing a revised schedule to conduct the Class 10 exams. The notice reads, The revised schedule of the said examination shall be announced shortly after consultation of the health department, government of Assam.
