Haryana Board will allow Type-1 Diabetic Students to Carry Eatables to Exam Centres for Health and Performance

In a commendable move, the Haryana Board has taken a step to support students with Type 1 Diabetes who are appearing for the Class 10 and 12 examinations. Recognizing the unique needs of these students, the board has decided to allow them to carry specific eatables to the examination centres to manage their blood glucose levels effectively and maintain their health and performance.

Type 1 Diabetes, particularly prevalent among children, requires insulin injections at regular intervals to manage blood glucose levels. To avoid the risk of hypoglycemia, these students often need frequent meals to stabilize their blood sugar levels. The Haryana Board’s decision to permit the carrying of eatables for Type 1 Diabetic students during examinations aims to address this vital requirement.

Under this new provision, students suffering from Type 1 Diabetes can carry any of the following eatables with them while coming to the examination centre: sugar tablets, chocolates, candies, fruits like bananas, apples, oranges, snack items like sandwiches, and a small bottle of water (500 ml). These provisions ensure that the students have access to essential food items that can help them manage their blood glucose levels effectively.

However, the Haryana Board has also laid down some modalities to ensure a smooth implementation of this provision. Firstly, students with Type 1 Diabetes must submit a certificate from a diabetic specialist along with their complete diabetic history, including the nature of their diabetes and the need for snacks during the examination. This certificate will be forwarded by the Principal of the school where the student is studying. The purpose of this requirement is to ensure transparency and accountability while maintaining the integrity of the provision.

Furthermore, the food items carried by the students will be kept with the invigilators at the examination centres. The invigilators will be responsible for handing over the eatables to the candidates when needed. This arrangement ensures that the process is well-regulated and maintains fairness for all students.

The Haryana Board’s decision to accommodate the specific needs of Type 1 Diabetic students during examinations reflects a compassionate and inclusive approach. By allowing them to carry eatables that can help stabilize their blood glucose levels, the board acknowledges the importance of ensuring equal opportunities for all students, regardless of their health conditions.

This progressive step not only supports the health and well-being of Type 1 Diabetic students but also empowers them to perform to the best of their abilities during examinations. It sets a positive example for other educational boards to consider similar measures that prioritize the needs of students with specific health conditions.

In conclusion, the Haryana Board’s decision to permit Type 1 Diabetic students to carry specific eatables to examination centres is a commendable initiative. By addressing the unique dietary requirements of these students, the board ensures a level playing field and supports their overall well-being. This student-centric approach demonstrates the board’s commitment to inclusive education and fostering an environment where every student can thrive and achieve academic success, irrespective of their health conditions.
