CAT is one of the prestigious management entrance examinations for admissions to top IIM’s and other B-schools in India. Every year IIM CAT releases notification regarding the exam conducting body and its Convenor. With this, it brings lots of curiosity among CAT aspirants, that what changes will new body bring this year. Though these concerns are not unwarranted, CAT is well known to announce major or minor changes every year. The anticipation can also take a long time if the announcement is not done pre-examination.
This year the IIM Calcutta will conduct the CAT 2018. With the latest announcement of CAT Exam Dates earlier this year, we can expect more notifications to be available soon in the coming days. After 2011, it is this year that IIM Calcutta will conduct the Common Aptitude Test again. We can expect that announcement for any change will be available when the name of the convenor is released after the agreement of all the concerned authorities.
Any revision in CAT will be done after considering the interest and convenience of test takers. The thing kept in mind is that candidate’s test taking experience is flawless and smooth. Moreover, the paper should do justice to all the students whether Arts, Commerce or Science in terms of the difficulty level of paper.
This year, we can expect changes in the number of Non-MCQs. Last year, there was more such type of questions. However, in the year 2016, the non-MCQ’s were reduced to 25 from 28 questions. So, we predict that the number of questions will either remain same or increase this year. As non-MCQ questions, helps students to attempt more questions in the examination.
Second, we can expect a change in the number of sessions in the exam taking days. After watching the inconvenience caused by students last year. It can be speculated that the examination window will increase to two from one day. Though this is dicey as increasing the number of days can increase the chances of paper leakage and circulation of exam questions. At the same time, looking at the increasing number of test takers it is getting difficult to conduct in one day. Let’s see what the exam conducting takes a decision in this regard. Earlier, in CAT 2015, the test window was shortened to one day. Similarly, in CAT 2014 the test was conducted in 2 days instead of 20-day test window trend.
Third, the IIM Calcutta is expected to release more mock & practice tests and moreover early than previous year trends. Usually, mock test releases in the month of October, that is only one month before the examination schedule. This year, the mock test shall be available in the month of September 2018 to make exam more aspirants friendly and transparent.
Last major change in the CAT was in 2009 when the exam was for the first time conducted in online computer-based mode. After that, it was in 2015 that non-MCQ questions were introduced. Let’s see, will there be any major changes introduced to students for CAT 2018.
