The Union Public Commission has rescheduled major examinations of the current year. A revised time table of all major recruitment examinations of the UPSC was published at the official website earlier today. Attributed to the restrictions imposed on socio-economic activities in the country as a preventive measure against the COVID-19 outbreak, the UPSC was pushed to defer many upcoming examinations that were earlier scheduled to take place onward March 2020. However, as flexibility in current situations is slowly being allowed by the government, the UPSC has announced the tentative dates of all major postponed exams including the Civil Services and other defense recruitment exams.

Earlier in May 2020, the UPSC officially postponed upcoming exams and interviews in response to the third phase of the country-wide lockdown in India. The impact was directly taken by major UPSC exams such as the IAS and IFS exams, NDA and CDS exams, Engineering Services exam, Combined Geo-Scientist exam, Economic Service and Statistical Services exam among others. However, the Commission committed to release a revised schedule of postponed events as per minutes of a meeting that was pre-decided to be held on June 05, 2020.
As per the newly revised calendar of events, the combined prelims of the IAS 2020 and the IFS 2020 recruitment are now scheduled on October 04, 2020, while separate main exams for the events are scheduled on January 08, 2021, and February 28, 2021. The NDA & NA (I) 2020 exam has been rescheduled on September 06, 2020, which will also serve as the common exam for the NDA & NA (II) 2020.
The exam for recruitment into the Economic Services and Statistical Services is going to be conducted on October 16, 2020. The main stage exams of the Combined Geo-Scientist and Engineering Services recruitment for the current year are going to be conducted on August 08 and 09, 2020 respectively. The exam for the Combined Medical Service 2020 recruitment is scheduled to be conducted on October 22, 2020. The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) recruitment exam for the current year is scheduled to be conducted on December 20, 2020. In addition to these exams, the personality tests of the 2019 Civil Services Exam are now scheduled to resume from July 20, 2020. In this respect, the Commission has clearly indicated that shortlisted candidates will be intimated individually.
With the government progressively relaxing the stringent lockdown situations in India, it is evident that these dates, although official is tentative. This means that such a schedule of events is warranted under the provisions that situations in the country do not worsen in due course of time. Nevertheless, the UPSC, having acted as per earlier commitments to release new exam dates on June 5, has shone a new ray of hope on lakhs of aspirants waiting eagerly for the last few months.
