UPSC conducted IAS 2020 prelims on October 4, 2020 after much tussle on stopping the postponement of the exam. It consisted of two papers, general studies paper I, and general studies paper II of 200 marks each.
General studies paper I had 100 questions of 2 marks each. In it, the negative marking is ⅔. And general studies paper II had 80 questions of 2.5 marks each, with negative marking 2.5/3. The IAS answer key 2020 by Drishti IAS and other coaching centers help a candidate to analyse their exam performance, calculate an expected score, and compare it with last year cut off to predict chances of clearing the prelims.
Last year the prelims cut off marks for general, EWS, OBC, SC, ST were respectively 98, 90, 95.34, 82, and 77.34. IAS mentors have suggested that chances of cut offs increasing this time are very low. This is because the distribution of questions, percentage of out of context questions, core concept based questions presence, were all the same as last time.
IAS prelims results are expected to be announced by mid-November. Last time the CSE prelims were held on June 2, and result announced on July 12.
It may be noted that the Civil Services Main examination is scheduled to be held on January 8, 9, 10, 16, and 17, 2021.
