TN Class 11 Public exam controversy
The main issue surrounding the conduct of the Class 11 Public Exam is that the students had least expected it and they are not prepared to write a public exam now. Thanks to the hundreds of rumors in social media that claimed that the board exams will be conducted only for classes 10 and 12, this year. These rumors had initially provided relief to these students, but now, it has caused tension among the students and teachers.
There are 2 main reasons why many assumed that the class 11 students would be free of public exams this year –
1. The DGE usually conducts 2 revision tests prior to the board exams, to help the students with their preparation. However, this year the first revision test had been conducted only for classes 10 and 12. The second revision test has only been scheduled for these classes.
2. The Minister for School Education in Tamil Nadu, Mr. Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, had earlier announced that the board exams for classes 10 and 12 will be conducted this year, unlike the past 2 years. Even at that time, there was no news about class 11 exams.
Relief for the students
However, many teachers and online coaching institutes have come to the aid of the students. The teachers claim that the class 11 board exams are conducted mainly to prepare the students for class 12 and that there is no real pressure on these students. According to the subject experts, all that the class 11 students have to do, is to learn the important concepts and to try and pass the exams. Also, they highlight the fact that the Class 11 grades will be of no importance in the students’ future endeavors.
Issue regarding syllabus, revision tests
The students of classes 10 and 12 have been eagerly waiting for the official timetable. The first revision test was conducted from February 09 to February 16 by the DGE. The second revision test is scheduled to begin on March 28. But there is .
Many schools have not completed the portions yet. And those that have completed the syllabus, have done so in haste. Also, the revision tests do not cover the full syllabus. Students are now worried about how this will affect their future, as the class 10 and 12 grades matter in the long run.
Many teachers’ associations and other voluntary organizations have requested that the final exam syllabus be shortened. But, there have not been any official announcements in this regard yet. Until the government has any good news for these students, all they can do is prepare.
