In a much-awaited update for students and parents, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has issued an official press release on the availability of the new NCERT Class 9 textbooks for the academic session 2026-27. Dated 1 May 2026, the press release confirms that the new books – aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 – are being printed on a “war-footing” basis and are simultaneously available for free download on the official NCERT website and DIKSHA platform.

The announcement comes amid widespread concerns over the temporary shortage of physical copies in the open market. To bridge the gap, NCERT has opened multiple distribution channels and confirmed that all Grade 9 books have been released, except the Social Science textbook, which is in its final stages of development.

What’s New in the NCERT Class 9 Textbooks 2026-27

The 2026-27 books mark the biggest curriculum reset for the secondary stage in nearly two decades. Developed under the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023, the new NCERT Class 9 textbooks focus on competency-based learning, conceptual clarity, and real-life application instead of rote memorisation.

The new titles include:

  • Ganita Manjari Part 1 – Mathematics
  • Exploration – Science (integrated Physics, Chemistry, Biology)
  • Kaveri – English
  • Sharda – Sanskrit (replacing the earlier Shemushi)

Students preparing under CBSE Class 9 and other affiliated boards are advised to switch to the new editions to stay aligned with the revised syllabus and assessment pattern. The shift will also impact future board exams and competitive entrance tests, including JEE and NEET, as syllabi are progressively realigned by the National Testing Agency.
