Republic day is a monumental day for India, a country that was wrought by invasion and colonialism. On January 26, 1950, the sub-continent came to be recognized as a Republic – a nation that is a government ruled by the people or their elected representatives. On this day, India also adopted its Constitution which today, shapes the way we function as a country. So, for true and patriotic Indians, today is a matter of immense pride, respect, and love towards the country.

While delivering a speech on Republic Day 2022, the orator needs to capture the essence and importance of this event. To do so, he/she needs to know the reasons for the celebration and significance of this day, the three years of effort to create the constitution, and of course, the long journey to independence. Only then will it be a speech rather than just words written on a piece of paper.

Republic Day 2022 Speech

Here is a simple yet heartfelt Republic Day 2022 speech from us. Hope you like it.

Dear friends, and proud countrymen!

Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity to speak my heart, on this joyous occassion of Republic Day.

Ganatantra Diwas! The name itself fills my heart with pride and joy!

My Bengali friends call it Projatontro Diwas. In Malayalam, we call it Rippablik Dinam. And in Telugu we fondly refer to it as Gabatantra Dinotsavam. I am sure you too have a lovely name for this day in your own language.

But behind this name, is years of struggles of our forefathers and foremothers.

Why do we celebrate Republic Day? After nearly 3 years of effort and countless discussions, the Drafting committee chaired by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar created the Constitution. Developed countries across the globe had questioned the ability of such an intensely diverse country to come up with a constitution. However, despite the number of challenges, Indians came out victorious. The constitution was adopted on November 26, 1949, and came into effect two months later, on January 26, 1950.

Republic Day is a reminder of how our freedom fighters sacrificed their lives for an independent future – free from British colonialism and imperialism. This day stands as the beginning of Purn Swaraj or Complete Independence. It is because of their relentless effort that today, we enjoy rights such as the right to equality, right to freedom, right against exploitation, cultural and educational rights, and many more.

India is a land of several religions, castes, dialects, languages, customs, and traditions. The country has a baffling amount of diversity, immeasurable and in abundance. Despite these differences, a nation like India has not only survived so long but also thrived. Republic Day is also a reminder of successfully showcasing unity in diversity.

So, while paying homage to all those leaders who created an independent and sovereign India, we need to reaffirm our commitment to equality, justice, and fraternity while serving our nation, as a responsible citizenry.

Let us enjoy the wonderful performances by children, jhankis, and the Republic Day Parade today.

And then I hope that tomorrow, and on all days that we awaken in this beautiful land, we remember the sacrifices made by those before us. And do something everyday to ensure that when they look down upon us from heaven, they feel as proud of us, as we are of them.

Jai Hind!
