The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) will be conducting the NEET PG 2022 examination on May 21, 2022. With the announcement of the examination date, medical students have now started a Twitter movement demanding the postponement of the exam. The reason behind this demand is manifold. While some want the internship deadline to get extended, others want the exam date to get changed since the counselling process for NEET PG 2021 is not yet over.
Extension of internship deadline
Earlier, the Kerala House Surgeon’s Association (KHSA) requested NBEMS to postpone NEET PG 2022 exam by one month along with the extension of the internship deadline till August 31, 2022. Nearly 2500 house surgeons will be ineligible to appear for the exam since their internship terminates only by August. As per the existing eligibility criterion, the present internship deadline is July 31, 2022.
Moreover, the tweets also highlight that the NEET PG counselling 2021 and NEET PG 2022 exam is just two weeks.

Mid-rankers in distress
The counselling process of NEET PG 2021 is not yet over and the new mop-up round is yet to be conducted. At this point, the medical students are still perplexed about whether they will get their previously allotted seats or not. Moreover, there are hardly 40 days left for the NEET PG 2022 exam. This has created a lot of confusion for the mid-rankers since there is a lot of uncertainty for them.

Less Preparation Time
Although the examination date has been revised, medical students now claim that they don’t have sufficient time for preparation. As per the tweet attached below, a student needs a minimum of 02 days to revise each subject. Consequently, the total time will exceed a month. There is only just a gap of one month between the counselling and exam date. As a result, this has now led to increasing demand for the postponement of the exam.
At this point, if the exams are not postponed, then around 6000 interns will be losing their precious year.

A few petitioners had previously requested the Supreme Court of India to extend the internship deadline stating that their internships got delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The apex court observed that the extension of the cut-off will tinker with the admission schedule. Moreover, the completion of the internship before July 31, 2022, was mandated under clause 4.4 of the NEET PG 2022 information booklet.
