The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has announced recruitment of Graduate Trainees (GTs) in Engineering and Geo-Science disciplines through Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2020. The ONGC recruitment through GATE 2020, however begins its application process for class I Executives (at E1 level) in the month of March after declaration of GATE results scheduled on 16th of March. The ONGC has prescribed detailed essential academic qualification which the applicants need to take care while registering for the recruitment.
The ‘Maharatna’ PSU, ONGC has categorically specified the mandatory academic qualifications required for each of the 19 posts including AEEs, programing officer, transport officer, chemist, geophysicist and materials management officer. Further, the ONGC has also identified the GATE 2020 subject papers against the academic qualification that will be considered in the selection process of GTs.
The applicants for ONGC recruitment through GATE 2020 need to have their degrees acquired through the regular mode, where the degree should have been approved by a recognized statutory body (AIU, UGC, AICTE, etc.). Distance mode qualification is also accepted, given that it is recognized by statutory bodies.
The qualifying degree percentage marks will be calculated as per the university/institution rules. The marks calculated in CGPA/OGPA/CPI/DGPA should be converted to equivalent percentage of marks as per the university regulations. In case there is no mention of specialization in the qualifying degree, the candidates, at the time of interview, will need to submit a certificate issued by their institution clarifying the area of specialization.
Most importantly, the qualifications provided in the official notification of ONGC recruitment will be considered sacrosanct; no equivalent qualifying degrees will be accepted. In addition to this, the AMIE also, will not be considered equivalent to the Graduation degree in Engineering.

The engineering graduates in the final year or semester can also apply for the recruitment, however, their candidature for the final selection will subject to the fulfillment of the minimum qualifying marks in their prescribed degree programme till the time of interview.
Moreover, the Unreserved/EWS candidates applying for Drilling/Cementing posts need not be more than 28 years as on 31 July, 2020, wherein those belonging to OBC need not be more than 31 years on the specified date and the SC/ST applicants are given an upper age relaxation till 33 years.
The candidates applying for all other positions but Drilling/Cementing should not be more than 30 years, if belonging to Unreserved/EWS category, while those belonging to OBC and SC/ST categories are given an upper age relaxation of 3 years and 5 years, respectively.
Notwithstanding, the ONGC recruitment through GATE for Graduate Trainee positions, also require the candidates to appear and qualify the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2020, in accordance with the subjects specified in the official notification.
The ONGC will accept only GATE 2020 scores in shortlisting candidates for the further selection process and interview.
