National Testing Agency (NTA) has accepted the proposal of conducting the entrance exam for admission in Delhi University from this session onwards. Delhi University had submitted the proposal to NTA for which they have given a nod and are to discuss the terms and rules of entrance exam in the upcoming meets.

If the proposal is finally approved, NTA will be conducting the entrance exam for DU for admission in various undergraduate, masters, MPhil and Ph.D. programs of Delhi University for the 2019 session. Rajeev Gupta, Delhi University Chairman have been reported saying that the proposal is to only conduct the entrance exam on behalf of DU. There will be no new changes or new courses to be added under the entrance exam. The syllabus and the entrance exam pattern are to remain the same.

Admission in Delhi University is based on merit too. There is only a certain percentage of courses for which DU holds the entrance examination. DU releases the schedule for their entrance exam and merit-based admission at  du.ac.in. The admission for non-entrance exam courses will be starting from May 20, 2019.

However, the proposal of NTA conducting DU’s entrance exam has yet not been discussed in the  Academic Council (AC) meeting. It is a standard process to discuss the same with AC. It is likely that the proposal and the rules are to be discussed in the upcoming AC meet.

NTA’s Director General, Vineet Joshi have said that NTA has given a nod to DU about the proposal, they have to decide the rules of conducting the exam and they will reach a final conclusion thereafter. Before DU, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) had handed over the responsibility of conducting their entrance exam to NTA.

DU conducts entrance exam for Undergraduate courses like B.A. (H) (In Journalism), BBE (Business Economics), BBA, BFIA, Elementary education, Humanities and social science, Music, Health education & sports, and B. Tech. (in Information technology and mathematical innovation).

The thoughts of taking the DU entrance exams online have faced backlashes since the past 3 years. However, after that now, if NTA takes charge of the entrance examination, DU entrance exam will be held in the online mode.

Only after the AC’s approval, the NTA will take charge of DU’s entrance exams 2019. The registrations for DU entrance exams will be starting in the 3rd week of May 2019. the candidates have to apply online for the entrance exam if the courses of their choice demand the clearance of the DU entrance exam. The entrance examination will be held in the month of June – July 2019.
