National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has officially postponed the Class 12th board exams and cancelled the Class 10th board exams in 2021 in view of the prevailing pandemic situation in the country. An official notice has been issued in this regard on the website of NIOS i.e. nios.ac.in. In addition, a public intimation has been issued through the official account of NIOS in Twitter along with a snapshot of the official notice today.
NIOS has tweeted that “The Public Exam in Theory & Practical of Secondary courses scheduled in June 2021 are hereby cancelled and the Public Exam in Theory & Practical of Senior Secondary & Vocational courses scheduled in June 2021 are hereby postponed till further order”.

Through the official notice, it has been clarified that the Class 12 Theory & Practical exams (Senior Secondary) 2021 and other Vocational exams scheduled to be held in June 2021 are postponed indefinitely i.e. until further orders are issued. The notice also indicates that NIOS will review the situations by June 20, 2021, after monitoring the latest developments during the said period. NIOS has also indicated in the official notice that a revised exam date will be announced in this regard at least 15 days before the actual exam date.
While the NIOS has postponed the Class 12 Theory and Practical public exams, the Class 10 (Secondary) Theory & Practical exams 2021 has been cancelled. The Class 10th exams were also scheduled to be held in the month of June 2021 but now the NIOS has cancelled the exam meaning that Class 10 exams of the Institute will not be held this year on account of the pandemic situation in the country.
Although NIOS has not indicated any criteria for evaluation of merit of candidates who were registered to appear in the Class 10 Theory and Practical exams 2021, the notice reads “The NIOS will develop suitable criteria for assessment and result will be prepared in the best interest of learners“. The Institute is expect to devise alternative criteria in due course of time and candidates are advised to be vigilant on the official website and other official social media presence of the Institute for further updates in this regard.
NIOS has however declared that any learner who are not satisfied with the result computed on the basis of some alternative criteia, will be allowed to appear in public examination to be held by the NIOS later. The Institute has also hinted toward conducting On-Demand examination for such candidates as and when the situations are more conducive to conduct physical examinations.
