NEET for Engineering refers to the concept wherein all engineering entrance exams in India will be replaced by a single engineering entrance exam JEE. The concept was first coined in mid 2016. It was reported that AICTE is contemplating to make JEE Main as the only entrance exam for undergraduate engineering courses. Now once again NEET for Engineering is in news and this time it is reported that it may be implemented from 2019.
A report in Hindu, on the 27th convocation held by Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology in Tamil Nadu, attended by AICTE Vice Chairman MP Poonia, says that the Vice Chairman said that there is a proposal to conduct NEET for Engineering courses and the test will be conducted from 2019.
In 2019, JEE Main is undergoing major changes including the fact that responsibility to conduct it has been transferred from CBSE to newly formed NTA. Moreover the exam will now take place two times in a year (Jan and April) and will be in online mode. However there is no mention of it becoming the only entrance exam for engineering like NEET replaced all medical entrance exams in India.

NEET or the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is the medical entrance exam in India for admission to MBBS, BDS programs in all colleges recognized by MCI and DCI, except AIIMS and JIPMER. When this change was brought about, it was met by great resistance from many states.
At present there are around 40 entrance exams for engineering. They are at national, state, and college level. Held by different bodies, they have different eligibility requirements and exam patterns. However usually the syllabus of entrance exam remains similar comprising of class eleventh and twelfth syllabus of physics, chemistry, mathematics.
