The Government of Maharashtra is all set to start a State Open School Board. It will begin in January 2019, with an aim to provide education to those students who are unable to attend the regular schools. It is said to be one of the most ambitious projects of the Govt which will be a step ahead in increasing the literacy rate from 82.34 percent to 100 percent.
The recent decision of the state government to shut down more than 1000 schools, on the basis of NAS data, shook the nation. According to the survey, there are around 18% students of Class III and approximately 16% students of Class V and VIII comes under this category. The decision attracted a lot of flak and the govt. was criticised for not considering the availability of schools in the area where the shutting down was done. So the people who are deprived of the mainstream education or can’t go to the regular schools or are a dropout will be able to fulfill their dreams.
“We are going to start an Open Board for those who have missed their schooling”, said, the State Education Minister of Maharashtra, Mr. Vinod Tawde. He has also assured the people that there will be a drastic reduction in the dropout students”.
There are around 50,000 to 80,000 private candidates who give board exams every year in Maharashtra without attending the regular classes or without having the formal education. Either they have to study on their own or they have to rely on the tuition classes. This also increases their inconvenience. But after starting the Open School, these issues will be resolved because the board will provide the Study Material online on their official website. The question papers will be formed from the syllabus which they will provide.
According to the reliable sources, Maharashtra Open School will be established under the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. The Open School Board will provide the syllabus to the students and will also maintain all the activities from conducting the exams to the conclusion. The syllabus of this board will be different from the regular boards. It will have the subjects like Science and Technology, Agriculture, Information Technology, Economics, Screen Printing, Co-Operatives etc. It is also said that the students will be able to study the Languages such as Marathi, Sanskrit, Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati, English etc.
Thus, MSOS is also aiming to provide the education to the Employees, House Wives, Adult Labourers, and others. It will also be helpful in increasing the number of literate people in India. Thus as the future point of view, the open school idea is very beneficial for the citizens and for the country also.
