JNVST 2021 Postponed

Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti issued a public notification on April 15, 2021, regarding the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST) 2021. According to the notification, the JNV test for Class 6 has been rescheduled to a later date due to administrative reasons, except in Mizoram, Meghalaya and Nagaland. Authorities shall notify the rescheduled date at least 15 days prior to the date of conducting the selection test. JNVST was previously scheduled to be conducted on May 16, 2021, across the country with the exception of a few states.

JNVST 2021 was scheduled to be conducted on May 16, 2021, on a national scale. It was to be conducted in all states and Union Territories (UTs) other than Mizoram, Nagaland and Meghalaya. For these three states, the examination was scheduled for June 19, 2021. However, The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti announced on Thursday, May 15, 2021, that it has postponed the examination date citing administrative reasons.

The concerned authorities clarified that the new examination date shall be announced 15 days prior to the actual date of examination. This is to ensure that candidates get enough reaction time to prepare for the examination. This is second time that the JNVST 2021 examination has been postponed. Earlier, the selection test was scheduled on April 10, 2021. Due to administrative reasons, the exam was postponed.

The JNVST Class 6 examination is conducted in 20 languages including English and Hindi. The examination comprises of three subjects – Mental Ability, Arithmetic and Language. Mental ability is for 60 minutes duration and holds 50 percent weightage in the selection process. The remaining two subjects are for 30 minutes duration and hold 25 percent weightage each.

After qualifying the selection test, selected candidates have to produce all the relevant documents necessitated by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti. Only after document verification can the selected candidates secure their admission. Until admission however, the selection shall remain provisional.

In 2019, the JNVST examination was conducted across 634 schools on April 06. On the other hand, in 2018, a total of 623 JNVs participated in the selection test which was conducted on April 21. The authorities were planning a similar time this year to conduct the examination. However, the test has been postponed to a later date which shall be notified on the official website navodaya.gov.in.

While Navodaya Vidyalaya samiti postponed the exams due to administrative reasons, education boards across the country are postponing exams due to the COVID-19 pandemic. India is currently witnessing a huge daily surge of coronavirus cases. Due to this, states like Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh as well as CBSE have postponed/cancelled board exams for Class 10 and 12.
