Today will be yet another day when JEE Main 2020 and NEET 2020 aspirants will have their eyes glued to the decision regarding the exam dates. The worsening COVID-19 situation has lead the candidates and parents to move the Supreme Court to delay the exam from the scheduled dates. Reportedly multiple PILs have been filed in the courts. The first case will be heard in the supreme court today, August 17, 2020, post 11 am.
JEE Main 2020 exam date has been set as September 1 to 6, 2020 and NEET 2020 exam date is September 13, 2020. National Testing Agency has yet not issued the admit card of JEE Main 2020 or NEET 2020. It was speculated the admit card would be releasing on August 15, 2020, for JEE Main, however, it did not. As per the official notice by NTA for JEE Main and NEET: “The dates of downloading the admit card indicating roll number and center of the examination will be displayed 15 days before the conduct of the examination on the official website…”
Now, due to the hearing, the dates of both the exam remain unsettled and the candidates have to wait further for the admit card. Alakh Alok Srivastava, the advocate who will be handling this case, has tweeted that he is hopeful that SC will grant relief to the students. Justice Arun Mishra will be heading the SC bench.

The appeal in SC to postpone the exams has been made the COVID-19 cases sore high in the nation. Visiting the exam center and appearing for the national level exam will be gruesome. JEE Main will witness a crowd of 11 lakh candidates and their parents at the exam centers all over the nation and NEET will have more than 15 lakh. Various states have imposed partial lockdown, no trains are moving, public transport is not safe, amidst this plying to exam centers will be an added worry to the already anxious students of JEE Main and NEET.

Students have also raised questions on the SOP guidelines that are followed at the centers. Previously KCET and KEAM, the state level entrance exam of Karnataka and Kerala states respectively were held. The guidelines followed at the centers were criticised by the students and they claim that a similar situation can happen in JEE Main and NEET.

However, on one hand, PILs have been filed demanding the postponement of the exam, on the other, there are other PILs that demand no further delay. The hearing for the opposite party will be also made today.

Total cases of COVID-19 have rose to 2,647,663 in India. The daily count of new cases is 50,000+.
