IIT Kanpur launched the JAM 2020 registration at JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) yesterday, as promised. Candidates from across the country, interested in pursuing MSc programmes in IITs and IISC Bangalore can fill and submit the online application form now. Deadline for submission of the form and uploading of documents is October 9, 2019, 5.30 pm.
“Discipline of qualifying degree” is one field which candidates often face confusion over. Several candidates have asked what to fill here, over social media circles of the exam. Whereas IIT Kanpur has not provided any specific instruction for this field or any other to be filled in the form. Candidates who filled the form in past years have come out to help this year’s applicants. As per the candidates, here, qualifying exam is the one you are filling in the field just above it that is the one you last passed on basis of which you will get admission to M.Sc. And discipline means name of that course in which you got your degree.
The JOAPS follows a three-step process of application, wherein the first step is online registration, followed by filling up of the JAM 2020 application form including uploading of photograph and signature, and then finally paying the fees. To apply, one has to go to the official website if the exam that is jam.iitk.ac.in and click on JOAPS portal link, or directly go to joaps.iitk.ac.in.
Indians as well as foreign nationals can apply for JAM 2020. The registration for all, minimum bachelors degree holders, is open at JOAPS. First step is to register.
Step 1 for applying, is that at JOAPS, “New User? Register Here” link has to be clicked. Here, candidate has to carry out the first step mentioned above, by providing their name, a valid email address, an active mobile number and setting up a password. IIT K has underlined that the email id and mobile number need to personal and authentic as all the correspondences regarding the Joint Admission Test for MSc programmes will be made through these only. Upon successful registration, candidates will receive an Enrolment ID on their registered e-mail id and mobile number. The mail and SMS sent to email id and mobile number, respectively, will also have the password for login.
After registration, enrolment ID and password should be kept safely. However this does not end the form filling process. Second step is to fill out details in the application form.
Step 2 is filling up of application form. Candidates will need to login to JOAPS using the enrolment ID and password, and fill all details that are then asked in the application form. Data to be filled include: exam details – number of test papers, select paper, choice of exam cities; personal details – DOB, gender, name of parent / guardian, mobile number of parent / guardian, nationality, category; communication details – address, ID proof; qualifying degree details – qualifying degree, discipline of qualifying degree, whether graduated in it or not, year of passing, college or university address. In this step only, candidates need to upload scanned images of a recent colour photograph and signature, and scanned pdfs of category certificate if applicable.
Last step is to pay the application fee. Here, it is important to note that application fee is different as per gender, category, and test paper options.
Step 3, which is the last step, is paying application fees. in online mode using credit card, debit card, net banking options. All female applicants, and all SC, ST, PWD applicants need to pay Rs 750 for one paper, and Rs 1,050 for two papers. All other candidates have to pay Rs 1,500 for one paper and Rs 2,100 for two papers.
The organizing body of JAM 2020 has also given clear instructions on acceptable and unacceptable photographs. The photo should be passport size, coloured and of good quality. It should be taken on or after August 1, 2019, and be of dimension 3.5 cm width by 4.5 cm height. Scanned photograph should be of JPEG format, between 240 pixels by 320 pixels and 480 pixels by 640 pixels, and between 5 kb and 200 kb.
By the same token, specifications for signature to be uploaded are also given. Wherein, IITK says that candidates need to sign in a rectangular box measuring 2 cm height and 7 cm in width, on a white paper and then sign in it with blue or black ink. The size of this scanned image should be between 80 pixels by 280 pixels and 160 pixels by 560 pixels. The file size should be between 5kb and 100kb.
IIT JAM 2020, a computer-based mode examination will be held on February 9, 2020 in as many as 69 cities across India. Candidates can appear for JAM to pursue postgraduate programmes in science at IITs and IISc Bangalore. The Joint Admission Test for MSc programmes will be conducted in two sessions, wherein the first session, candidates will be appearing for Biotechnology, Mathematical Statistics and Physics papers and in the second session, exam for Chemistry, Geology and Mathematics papers will be held. The three-hour duration paper will begin at 9:30 am in the first session and 2:30 pm for the second session. Applicants will be able to download admit card from January 7, 2020.
