IIM Ahmedabad has increased the fee for the academic year 2019-21. The updated fee will be applicable to candidates who will join the Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in June/ July. The overall academic fee has been hiked by 4.5% from the last year. In the previous session the fee was Rs 22 Lakh and now it has been Rs 23 Lakh for the new batch.
As reported in the national newspapers, IIM Ahmedabad director Errol D’Souza said that the fee has been hiked after the approval by Governing Council. All the prospects related to inflation, expenses etc were considered before taking the decision.
From the last four years, IIM-A has been increasing continuously by Rs 50, 000/- to Rs 1,00,000/-. In the year 2015-17, the fee was Rs 18.5 Lakhs. The revised fee structure may not have much impact on the MBA aspirants with the high placement opportunity and Return-on-Investment (ROI). Still, repayment of loans can bother aspirants in the long run. However, IIMA provides a scholarship to about 33% of students. This year, there has been no increase in the total number of seats.
Following this, other IIMs may also hike the fee for the academic year 2019-21. It may rise by 3%-4.5% from the previous year. The final decision will be communicated to the new batch before the starting of the session. Each IIM has a different fee and the board of respective IIM will finalize the fee structure. It ranges from 10-23 Lakh for the two-year post-graduate programme.
