Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board will be holding the Class 12 board exams in 2021, as per latest reports. Following a high profile meeting of Union Ministers and other important stakeholders on Monday, the Education Minister of the state Bhupendrasinh Chudasama announced that the state is in favour of conducting the Class 12 board exams. However, a final decision regarding the date and pattern of the exam is to be taken after consultation with the head of the state i.e. the Chief Minister.
The state education minister Mr. Chudasama tweeted that the Class 12 board exams will be held for Science and General streams this year. The decision has been taken with consideration of the health and well-being of candidates as well as to cater to their educational career. The Minister confirmed that the exact date and pattern of the exam will be confirmed after a meeting has been conducted with the Chief Minister of the state Vijay Rupani.
It may be noted that following the high profile meeting of Union Ministers and other stakeholders, the CBSE proposed to conduct Class 12 board exams. In this regard, CBSE proposed two alternatives and although a maximum number of states provided consensus to hold the exam in schools where students are enrolled, some states were against the decision.
The Centre requested states to submit their proposals regarding the conduct of the Class 12 board exams by May 25, 2021, i.e. today. It may be noted that the Gujarat government cancelled the Class 10 board exams earlier and decided to give mass promotion to approximately 12 lakh candidates of class 10. However, the Board will conduct the class 12 exams as confirmed by the state education minister now.
The Minister was quoted saying by major media houses that Gujarat has stood up to the decision of conducting the Class 12 board exams. He said, Class 12 board exams have to be conducted, ensuring COVID-19 preparedness and safety of candidates and staff… We have made our stand clear that these exams should be conducted.
Candidates may note that the Gujarat state government earlier decided to mass promote more than 8 lakh candidates registered for appearing in the Class 10 exams of the state board. The state government announced that students of Class 1 to Class 9 and Class 11 would be promoted this year without conducting exams. However, the state government decided to conduct the exam for Class 13 students indicating that the examination will be held for sure.
