Goa students offered admission in BVSc and AH courses via NEET 2019

As per the newspaper reports, the state government of Goa has no institute of veterinary services and animal husbandry of its own. These authorities are paying Rs. 6.00 lakh per seat to a university in Pondicherry and Rs. 2.5 lakh per seat at another one in Maharashtra to reserve 11 seats all together for Goan students.

However, it has been observed that the response of the candidates for Veterinary and Animal Husbandry admission is poor. Furthermore, the state government is paying a huge amount to reserve these seats for Goans students but there is not much awareness about it amongst the students. As per one of the official, the highest number of applications that they have received from Goan students is 100.

The Goa government has a long-standing MoU with the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Veterinary Education and Research at Pondicherry, the Maharashtra Animal & Fishery Sciences University at Nagpur. Earlier, the admission in the Pondicherry Institute used to be on the basis of their Class 12th marks, while, for admission at the Nagpur Institute, the admission process has been shifted to NEET. Now, to equalize the opportunities for the candidates, both Institutes have decided that they will shortlist candidates on the basis of NEET 2019 marks.

To create awareness about the seats, the state government has added information about applying for the programme through NEET on the prospectus of the Goa State Common Entrance Test (GCET 2019). With the information regarding admission in veterinary services and animal husbandry programs will be done on the basis of candidate’s performance in NEET UG 2019, it is expected that the number of applications shall increase this year. The All India Rank of the candidates in NEET 2019 will be used for admission in B.V.Sc.&A.H

For B.V.Sc.&A.H, there are a total of 06 seats in Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Science University (MAFSU), Nagpur, out of which, 03 are for UR category, 01 for ST, and 02 for OBC. Whereas, at Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Veterinary Education & Research (RIVER) Puducherry, there are a total of 05 number of seats, out of which, 03 is for General category, 01 for SC and 01 for OBC.

In order to apply for admission for BVSc and AH, the candidates should have passed Class 12th Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent examination and should have secured not less than 50% marks in the aggregate of subjects of Physics, Chemistry & Biology (in case of SC, ST, OBC, it is 47.5 for MAFSU and 40% in case of RIVER).

Furthermore, the candidate should be a resident of Goa state with minimum residence of 15 years. in proof of this, the candidates will have to submit a Certificate of residence from the Mamlatdar, indicating period of continuous residence.

The application form for admission in BVSc and AH has been made available and the start date for recieving the application form is May 17, 2019 at the official website, dte.goa.gov.in. The candidates will have to fill Application Form “C” as in the information brochure to apply for BVSc and AH courses. The candidates have to fill in details and submit the completed application form before May 24, 2019. The provisional list of candidates on the basis of their NEET AIR (All India Rank/ Percentile /  Score) as will be released by NTA will be published online on July 02, 2019.

As per the GCET 2019 Information Brochure, during the round of admissions, candidates will have to bring all original documents for verification. The Candidates will be offered choice of University / Institution, based on their merit list position. At the end of Round of admission, admitted candidates shall report to Directorate of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services for completion of necessary formalities.
