03 Jan 2022 Update on e-Shram Card: People are searching “e shram card ki pahli kist kab aaegi“. As per news reports, in Uttar Pradesh, the government will transfer Rs 1000 in the accounts of the workers today. There are a total of 5,09,08,745 (more than five crores) registered workers in e-Shram in UP. As per news reports, UP govt will transfer money in the account of 1.5 crore workers today. Workers will get Rs 500 every month.


Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India has commenced the registration process for e-shram card on the official website, register.eshram.gov.in. This initiative was launched by PM Narendra Modi with the idea of providing financial security and registering the people working in the unorganized sector. All those who abide by the basic eligibility criteria can register themselves for the e-shram card and avail the benefits.

As of now, at least 17 crores workers have joined the portal and out of this 61% of people belong to the age group of 18-40 years. The state from which highest registrations have been done is Uttar Pradesh. In UP, around 6 crore have applied for e-Shram. Apart from this, the maximum number of registrations have been done by the OBC category followed by General and SC/ST. The highest number of registrations have been done by citizens of Uttar Pradesh which is followed by West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, and other states.

What is e-Shram Card?

This is an initiative of the government. Indian labourers can apply for this e-Shram Card, and on the basis of it, avail benefits and seek employment.

e-Shram Benefits

e-Shram card is loaded with lots of benefits for registrants. Some of the major benefits that are being offered to the beneficiaries are mentioned in the space below:

  • Providing pension facilities to people after attaining a particular age
  • Accidental Life Insurance of Rs 2 lakhs
  • Concession and financial help for medical treatment
  • Funds to those who are willing to build their own house
  • Financial assistance for children’s education and for upgrading skills
  • Financial assistance to a female employee who is on sabbatical leave

Who is eligible for e-Shram?

The basic eligibility for registering is being an Indian citizen and having a permanent resident from any particular state or UT. Along with this, the beneficiary should be in the age limit of 18 years to 59 years as of December 21, 2005. Only those who are working as laborers, workers are eligible to apply for this scheme.

How to Apply for e-Shram card

The following steps would be really helpful in registering for the e-shram card:

Step 1: Visit the official website of e-shram, register.eshram.gov.in

Step 2: On the homepage, enter the Adhaar card number, captcha code and choose if the candidate is a member of EPFO and ESIC, and click on the get OTP.

Step 3: Next, enter the details in the application form and upload the relevant documents to the upload section.

Step 4: Finally, go through the details in the e-shram application form one last time and submit it.

The following set of documents has to be furnished by the candidates who are looking forward to filling the application form for e-shram card:

  • Electricity Bill
  • Aadhar Card
  • Mobile Number Linked with Aadhar Number
  • Bank Passbook
  • Ration card

This scheme was implemented in the backdrop of the Migrant Crisis 2020. This portal will act as a register of an estimated 398-400 million unorganized workers and take appropriate measures to ensure the financial security, social leverage, and coverage to livelihood. On the contrary, analysts have criticized that the portal has come online nearly four decades after the passage of the Unorganised Workers’ Social Security Act in 2008, and after repeated backlash from the Supreme Court of India. At the moment, however, it is catering to the basic needs of all the daily-wage workers working in the unorganised sector throughout the country.

What is the last date for registration?

As of now the government has not yet announced the last date for registration. The process was started on August 26, 2021. One should apply soon to avoid missing out on the last date.
