Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has published the class 10 science sample paper for the upcoming board exams 2020. Not only is a sample question paper available, marking scheme has also been provided with it so that students know how to answer the questions they will face. Science is one the three main subjects of class 10 curriculum, the other two being mathematics and social science. In CBSE’s own words, the sample paper is even more important than the curriculum, as they have been released after the board had taken decisions on the new exam pattern. To understand the new exam pattern and be prepared for the exam, it is most essential to attempt this paper.
What will be the weightage of chapters in class 10 science exam?
For the class 10 science subject, board exam will be of 80 marks, and 20 marks will be awarded on the basis of internal assessment.
In the board exam, there will be 25 marks worth of questions from unit I, chemical substances nature and behavior. Then 23 marks will be for unit II, world of living. Unit III that is natural phenomenon will be worth 12 marks. Unit IV effects of current will weigh 13 marks. And finally the unit V, natural resources shall be of 7 marks.
What will be the CBSE class 10 science exam pattern 2020?
As per the sample paper, the science paper will have three sections A, B, C. Questions in section A are 1-mark that include MCQ, VSA, and assertion-reason type; they have to be answered in one word or sentence. Section B will have 3-mark questions that are short answer type; answer them in 50-60 words. In section C, questions will be 5-mark each, long answer type; answer them in 80-90 words each. There will be 30 questions in the paper.
In section A in the sample paper, there are 14 questions, where 2 questions have 4 sub-questions each. Each question (without sub question), and each sub-question is of 1-mark. And thus the total marks count of this section is 20. This section has a question based on a passage, a question based on reading a table as well.
Section B has 10 questions. This section is for a total of 30 marks. The last section, section C has 6 questions, for a total of 30 marks. A number of questions in each section will have internal choices.
How will internal marks be given for class 10 science students?
Division of the 20 marks of internal assessment will be like this; 5 marks for three periodic tests by school where average of best two will be taken; 5 marks for diverse methods of assessment such as short tests, oral test, concept map; 5 marks for practical assessment; and 5 marks for portfolio of a student including classwork, peer assessment, self assessment.
How to download CBSE class 10 science sample paper 2020 and marking scheme?
CBSE has published all class 10th sample papers, including science, on the official website cbseacademic.in. To download sample paper pdf file from there, students need to go to the website and click “sample question paper” tab, a green colored button in the top most menu. Doing so opens a drop down the tab and a dropdown list appears. There, first select SQP 2019-2020 and then class X. Doing so opens the page with all CBSE class 10 sample papers 2020 arranged subject wise, with their marking schemes. Click the link SQP against Science to get the desired science subject sample question paper.
As per the latest announcements, CBSE will conduct class 10th exams from February 15 to March 31, 2020. Last year the board had conducted the class 10th science exam on March 13. It is usually held after the maths exam, and before the hindi or english papers. As soon as the CBSE 2020 date sheet is finalized, the board will publish it at cbse.nic.in.
