West Bengal Examinations Board (WBJEEB) has released notification and information bulletin for the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) 2020. Online application form will be available from today afternoon at wbjeeb.nic.in.
What are the important dates for WBJEE 2020?
WBJEE 2020 exam date is February 2, 2020. Paper I will be held from 11 am to 1 pm, and paper II will be held from 2 pm to 4 pm.
The starting date for online application form submission is today, October 18, 2019. Whereas the last date to apply online will be November 13, 2019.
Application form correction will be available from just one day after the last date to apply, that is from November 14, 2019. It will only be available for three days, until November 16, 2019. WBJEEB will issue admit card on January 27, 2020.
Why is WBJEEB conducting WBJEE 2020 so soon?
Every year WBJEEB conducts WBJEE in April or May. Last year the exam was held on May 26. In 2018, it was held on April 22. In 2017, the state level entrance exam was held on April 23. Holding WBJEE 2020 in February, that too on the first Sunday, is a significant change in the way this exam is usually held.
Neither the board has given any specific reason for conducting WBJEE in February, nor does there seem to be any obvious reason that catches the eye. The only speculation is that maybe the state wants to hold the entrance exam before higher secondary (board) exams. WB HS 2020 schedule is out, as per which, the class 12th exams will begin on March 12, 2020, and end on March 27, 2020.
Every year, the entrance exam is after the board exams. Maybe students are unable to focus on board exams due to the joint entrance, and for this reason, now board wants to hold the joint entrance in such a way that students get more than a month to prepare for the board exams. This is however mere speculation at this point.
As per the notification, the exam date is tentative, and “may be changed in extraordinary circumstances”.
