The SASTRA Deemed University shall establish a virtual reality facility in select 75 schools across the State of Tamilnadu to provide students an immersive & experiential learning experience. This announcement was made as part of the National Science Day Awards presentation function organized by SASTRA.

“The VR facility each costing about Rs.2 Lakhs shall be loaded with pre-developed subject matter content that shall provide students creative pedagogical tools to appreciate science concepts & improve their learning outcome,” said the Vice-Chancellor S.Vaidhyasubramaniam.

The National Science Day Awards instituted by SASTRA were presented by the Former Director of IIIT, Bengaluru Prof.S.Sadagopan. The award carrying a cash prize of Rs.5 Lakhs each and a citation were presented to distinguished scientists for their outstanding contribution in the fields of Chemistry, Physics & Life Sciences.

Dr.Sandeep Verma, Secretary of the Science Engineering & Research Board, Govt. of India & Dr.T.Govindaraju, Professor at JNCASR, Bengaluru were awarded the SASTRA-CNR Rao Award. The SASTRA-G.N.Ramachandran Award was presented to Prof.M.R.N.Murthy, Distinguished Professor at IBAB, Bengaluru, and the SASTRA-Obaid Siddiqi Award was presented to Prof.Harmit Singh Malik of the Hutchinson Cancer Research Centre, Seattle, USA. All the awardees delivered the National Science Day address. The SASTRA-Saroj Chandrasekhar Award of Rs.1 Lakh each were also presented to three women Ph.D. scholars.

Sastra University has been hosting the award ceremony as part of National Science Day. In 2021 as well, it successfully organized the ceremony. Now that the university will install VR facilities in Tamil Nadu schools, it must be noted that its inception in schools will not only provide an interactive learning experience but also give students the rightful exposure to the advancing technology in today’s world. Further allowing them to engage in the areas of their curriculum more actively, making concepts more understandable. SASTRA has shown commendable consideration towards the ‘online learning’ aspect and extracted the most efficient areas of technology for students.
