The Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh has recently launched the Student Police Cadet (SPC) in Gurugram Haryana. This is the national level programme for educating the young minds through student-police interaction. The aim of the programme is to inculcate moral values, ethics, crime awareness which they are not able to know from the academic curriculum. It is a small step towards building the character of students for a progressive society.
The programme by Government will help to bridge the gap between root learning and social responsibility. When the students will learn about tolerance, patience, empathy etc, then they emerge out to be a valuable citizen of a country in the future. The programme will bring all round development in the student’s personality. It will help fight social evils that we are facing today like alcohol abuse, drugs, vandalism, rapes, disrespect for elders etc.
The initiative will not be a burden for the students with the addition of a new programme launched. There will be no prescribed book or exam for this programme. Moreover, there will be only one class in the month. Though there is a training manual released for SPC by Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D). The project will focus on field training, visits to NGO’s, fire brigade stations etc.
The programme is specially designed for students of Classes 8th and 9th. It covers two kinds of topics; the first is crime prevention & control and another one is values & ethics. Moreover, it covers 4 crores students all over India. Initially, it will start in the government schools and will later expand its reach.
The programme has released the amount of 67 Crores to the states. In addition to it, Rs 50,000 will also be released to schools as a training, contingency. and educational aids. The state government will also recruit 6000 police personnel.
Many ministers came in the support of this programme. The Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Shri Prakash Javadekar also said statements in the praise of the programme. According to him, SPC is a good initiative and will inculcate discipline & hard work in the students.
Chief Minister of Haryana, Shri Manohar Lal also said that students undergoing training in SPC will help in police recruitment in future. The programme will also help in social construction through building personality building.
With the support from many government officials, the Home Ministers also appeals teachers, parents, students, police to give their contribution to the programme.
