As per the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), SRM has accreditation of A++ and has been placed under category “I” and section 12 (b) for government funding for research by MHRD. At this University, students have the freedom to choose one major subject as specialization and to add value they can choose minors subjects, which are courses across the discipline.
Currently, it offers major B.Tech specializations in Automobile, Biotechnology, Chemical, Civil, Computer Science & Engineering, ECE, Mechanical and Mechatronics, while the minor subjects include Engineering or Arts & Science such as Economics, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Psychology, Journalism, Management, Cyber Law, Sociology, Finance, English and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).
SRM University – B.Tech New Courses
From this year, SRM University has started offering some new courses namely Aircraft maintenance, Artificial Intelligence, Automobile with specialization in Vehicle Testing, Biomedical Engineering, CSE with specialization in BlockChain Technology, Gaming Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering with specialization in Cyber Physical Systems, Data Science, Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, Mechanical with specialization in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Robotics and Automation, Computer science and Business Systems in partnership with TCS.
School of Architecture and Interior Design
The school of Architecture is about people. It has a faculty of 20 members who are specialized in diverse areas such as Digital Architecture, City Planning, Urban Design, Project Management, Housing, Landscape Architecture, etc. The undergraduate level courses in this programme, B.Arch and B.Des are approved by Council of Architecture and AICTE. Admissions are done on the basis of NATA score. Also, candidates should have scored 50% marks in Maths, Physics, and Chemistry at Class 12. The University also offers postgraduate programmes, M.Arch and M.Des. A placement record of over 90%.
School of Management
From the past 25 years, the school of management has been providing education. It has connections with various industry bodies such as FICCI, MMA, CII and National Entrepreneurship Network and it provides students with placement opportunities at leading MNC organizations. Also, the school of management holds 17th rank in Times of India Survey amongst B.Schools. 90% consistent placement records have been observed with the highest salary offered at Rs.14 Lacs p.a. while the average salary offered at 6 LPA.
Also, the department has international collaborations with Hannam University, South Korea, ESIC Business & Marketing School, Spain, Saxion University of Applied Sciences, Netherlands.
Courses Offered include BBA, MBA, MBA (Hospital Management), MBA (Waste Management & Social Entrepreneurship). Dual specialisation is offered in Marketing, Finance, Operations, Human Resource Management / Organization Behavior, Strategy, Management Information System and Business Analytics.
Science & Humanities
The Faculty of Science and Humanities was started in 2003 with a single department but today, its faculty has 13 Majors and five allied departments offering 17 programs at UG level and 9 at PG level.
Undergraduate Programmes include B.Com & B.Com (Hons) in association with CIMA and ACCA, B.A, English and Journalism & Mass Communication, BSc., programs in basic sciences (Physics, Maths and Chemistry, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Film Technology, Fashion Designing, Hotel Management, Physical Education and Visual Communication, BCA and B.Ed.
Postgraduate programs include M.A., MSc., MCA (Lateral Entry), M.Com and M.Ed
Diploma and Certificate programs include Film Acting, Hotel Management, Yoga, Public Relations and Music
School of Law
The SRM Law School focuses on a holistic approach to the study of law, in the context of the socio economic cultural developments in India. It offers three courses – a five- year B.A. LL.B (Hons.), five-year B.Com LL.B (Hons.) and three-year LL.B (Hons.). As per the courses prescribed by the Bar Council of India, the curriculum also includes non- legal courses. From a non-law perspective, students are also exposed to Legal Professional and Communication Skills, Political Science, International Relations, History, Sociology, Business Management, Computerized Accounting, Banking and Insurance Services, Human Resource Management, and more.
From the first semester of the course itself, an internship for a minimum of three weeks is mandatory. This helps students to enhance the knowledge in the field of Law and leadership.
Many other specialized subjects such as Cyber law and Forensic Science, Maritime law, Law and Medicine, Election Law, Competition Law, Right to Information, Media Law etc. are also taught to students. The curriculum also includes many clinical papers such as Attending Lawyers Chambers and Lok Adalat, Legal Aid and Legal Literacy, Professional Ethics for Advocates, Legislative Drafting, and Moot Court. Every year, Legal Aid Camps are organised where students learn to assist the advocates. From the current year, a new course, namely, LLM(Hons.) Criminal Law and Criminal Justice has been introduced. It is a three year course.
SRM Campus Life
The SRM Kattankulathur campus of the University is of 250-acre having 42 blocks that comprise of a central library, modern lecture halls, and smart classrooms, wireless- enabled etc.. The students there are engaged with community radios, student clubs, cultural events, fitness centers, prayer halls, ATMs and cafeterias.
