Qualifying Examination Code for NEET 2020

NTA has provided a list of 7 codes as the qualifying examination codes for NEET 2020. One of these codes, as applicable, has to be entered in the application form while applying for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (UG) 2020.

Code 01 is for those who will be appearing in the class 12th exams and their result is awaited. Different national level and state boards in India will be holding the higher secondary or intermediate exams during February to April months, and students who will appear in them with PCB, English as main subjects and expect to get the required marks, can select this code.

Code 02 is for those who have taken the higher or senior secondary exam of Indian School Certificate examination equivalent to 10+2 higher or senior secondary exam, after a period of 12 years of study, in which the last two years of study comprised of PCB including practicals, and mathematics or any other elective subject with English at a level not less than core course prescribed by NCERT.

If the institute where students are studying has to consider exam of an Indian or foreign university to be equivalent to 12th class exam under the 10+2 scheme, then such students can also select code 02, but they will have to present a certificate from concerned Indian University or AIU proving that the exam that the exam they have passed is equivalent.

Code 03 is applicable to students who have studied intermediate or pre degree exam in science from an Indian university or board or other recognized body. They should have studied physics, chemistry, biology or biotechnology including practicals, and English as compulsory subjects.

Code 04 applies to students of pre-professional or pre-medical with physics, chemistry, biology or biotechnology and english. The pre-professional or pre-medical course should include practicals and also english should be a compulsory subject, and it should have been done after passing higher secondary or pre university or equivalent exam.

Code 05 is suited for students in first year or 3 years degree course with physics, chemistry, biology or biotechnology indlucing practicals. Subject to the fact that the exam is a university exam, and student has passed earlier qualifying exam with PCB and english at level not less than core course.

Code 06 qualifying exam is the B.Sc exam of an Indian university. Subject to passing B.Sc with at least two of the subjects physics, chemistry, biology (botany, zoology) / biotechnology. Also, such students should have passed earlier qualifying exam with PCB and english.

Code 07 is for any other exam which is in score and standard, that is the last 2 years of 10+2 study comprising of physics, chemistry, biology / biotechnology with practicals in these subjects, that is equivalent to intermediate science examination of an Indian university or board taking physics, chemistry, biology or biotechnology including practical tests in each of these subjects and english.

An often asked question is what is the qualifying code for droppers or repeaters for NEET 2020? The answer to that is, that there is no separate code for droppers or repeaters. The code 01 applies to students who are yet to appear in their class 12th board exams. Apart from that, all codes are defined on the basis of the last exam passed. Thus droppers should select that code, from among 02 to 07, which matches their last exam taken.

NTA will conduct NEET 2020 exam on May 3, 2020. It is the only medical entrance exam now since AIIMS and JIPMER MBBS exams have been scrapped. All candidates should apply for the exam at ntaneet.nic.in from December 2 to 31, 2019.
