No NEET 2018 for Open School and Private Candidates

The Medical Council of India (MCI) has crushed the medical dream of thousands of students. Unfortunately, the candidates from Open School and Private are now not eligible to apply for the NEET 2018. The news was confirmed through the official notification for the exam, which released today.

The grounds on which Open Board and the Private candidate has been debarred from the only medical entrance exam is not too firm. Medical Council of India has evaluated that the students of the respective Board are not at par with the regular school student. The Council further justifies its decision by stating that the curriculum of NIOS lacks practical education but the in the year 2012, it was MCI itself which included the Board.

Furthermore, as per the new eligibility criteria, of Biology/Biotechnology as an Additional Subject at 10+2 level also shall not be permissible. If AYUSH admissions are also held through NEET then these candidates cannot think of a career in respective AYUSH field as well.

The decision is receiving backlash from people of all walk because it is unjust. The quality of medical education in India will not be better by banning candidates. Last year, 2 lakh candidates registered for NIOS exam and of it 3000 appeared for NEET. Out of these, there were 864 candidates who did qualify NEET. For sure 864 is not a small number.

We ask, why not let these candidates apply for NEET 2018? If they are not good enough, they will not qualify the exam. MCI could have also provided prior notice to NIOS for including practical education…

…but no, MCI simply decided to smash the dreams of these candidates. This clearly shows how we have differentiated students in two categories. The students from the Open school will not be able to cope up with the standards of regular students seems to be just a reason to sideline the Open School from NEET and to cover our own sins. It is no secret how corrupt and unmanaged MCI is. The degraded medical standards are the result of ignorant and unscrupulous mannerism of the Council.

But who is at loss? It is always the loss of students. What’s worst is that MCI takes such step, by stating that it wants to give the best doctor and improve the medical education standard. The Medical Council which is not even sure about its own existence, frankly, cannot take wise decision for making the future of lakhs of candidates. Disbaaring Open school students from NEET is one of the best reasons of why MCI should be replaced.

On one hand, we promote education and tell the students to believe in their dream as one day they will come true. While on the other hand, we put up an invisible boundary around them and force them to not go beyond it. Why do we need to put the students always on the edge?

The education system can be improved not by banning students but making them learn. Everyone should get an equal opportunity to work for their dreams. What is view on the matter? Is it unfair that Open School and Private candidates are not allowed to appear for NEET 2018 or is it right? Let us know in the comment section below.

    This is really not fair.
They should have informed prior or atleast let it happen for 2018.
Where is equality now, open schooling has been taken by many students of rural areas and aspiring doctors.
And if they can pass neet by taking bio as a additional subject it means they are pretty well equipped.
    No wonder.
And they talk about equal rights.
    😒😒😒😒

Totally fair thing MCI did.The quality of education open schooling provides is shit as f*ck.How could someone think they would make good doctors when they dont even know basic practicals skills and techniques(which are way to important to be a good doctor).Sure India needs doctors ,but not untrained and idiot doctors whose basics in organic chemistry practicals are way too fragile.

Sir/madam, if any student hv studied at private/open etc it was their compulsion, the main thing is got a high mark at neet and take a colleges through all india quota, otherwise any school is not provide corpse for dissection in practical lab.If any things should be banned that must be quota/private colleges/abroad study(particular field)& management quota (according to ur comment )those gives idiot doctors.

Hey stardust, though I am not an NIOS student but i think it is totally unfair.
      Fair things is-
1- If NIOS is not providing better education to the student then, the board should be banned. Why such boards are providing education to our youth?
2- Think about a student who appeared in exams in year 2017 from CBSE regular but due to some problem he is not able to score good in exams. Then in present year he is giving its improvement exams as a private candidate of CBSE. He worked so hard and at the last moment he came to know that he is no more able to sit in his dream examinations. He has both practical knowledge as well as 2 year theoretical knowledge. He is more eligible for the exams.
3- The most favor thing is that allow all candidates in the NEET exams for the present year only. And ban the NIOS board and its students from appearing in exams from the next year. So that students are awared that they are not eligible for various competitive exams.

Ban on nios students should be removed because it’s govt. Who decide the syllabus and pattern of examination of open board not students why do they suffer because of all these non practical decisions of govt. If nios is not allowed then they should finish the pcb courses from nios…. why they are not removing it first… sudden anouncement of ban on nios will not help to cope up with deficiencies of doctors in india and quality of medical education in any manner… they will even worse the current situation…. MCI has been taking wrong decisions since very long … why do ban.. this is their fault that they cannot make uniform syllabus and pattern of all boards giving pcb subject and a sudden ban shows how our future depends in hands of highly irresponsible dictators…. is this democracy???? Is this your defination of equality among students of nation… PLEASE WAKE UP dont make those decisions which will ruin our medical system….
when MHRD has stated that they will revert the mci order of ban on nios students then why are these people implementing it again.. it shows how authorities sitting in mci dont care what centre says and what it does mci will do what they think is right…. it means MHRD has no right to stop the wrong doings in mci….. THIS IS DEFINETLY NOT AT ALL ACHE DIN…. i think these years have been the darkest phase in the history of medical education…

Ya its totally wrong what about those who applied as a private candidate only for good percentage although they have passed before .

  8. Saurabh Bharadwaj says:

This is unjust, MCI must role back its whimsical decision. On one hand it ends limit of attempts in NEET and at the same time it doesn’t allow candidates who have passed 10+2 from Open Schools or as Private candidates a single chance. These students must have equal rights for learning and career opportunities. Right response given in article

  9. rakesh gaur says:

This decision should be taken back

    • Radhika says:

A private student is one who don’t go to school for their education instead they join a coaching for cracking any competitive exam….Just take admission in school for giving board exams , so they haven’t done any practical in school
MCI is talking about those students who don’t abt practicals held in school how would they become a good doctor

What about the ‘Right to Education’ given to all the students? Never discriminate regular students and distance school students which is a shame to the nation. You cannot judge by yourselves stating that the open school students are not bold enough to become a doctor. If that’s the case, then last year 800+ Open School students qualified NEET and now they are studying MBBS 2nd year in various colleges in India. So, do you also want to cancel their admissions as well? Bohut Ache Din Aagaye doston, ab bhi waqt hai, jaago desh jaago and give your vote to the right person and not the foolish one. I advise all the people of India to continue strike against MCI for making such a dumb decision. Advocate Abdul Hafeez, High Court of Judicature of Hyderabad.
