‘No More JEE Advanced’ – A New Proposal To Be Discussed At The IIT Council Meeting On August 21

On August 21, 2018, a historical decision might be made. As per the newspaper reports the idea of scrapping JEE Advanced examination is to be discussed at the IIT council meeting scheduled on August 21, 2018. Along with taking down JEE Advanced exam, there are also talks on scrapping the IIT flagship B.Tech courses and converting IITs into high-end institutes that offer post-graduate education and only certain semesters of teaching to nearly 80,000 students a year instead of the current 10,000 plus. However, how much is this idea feasible is yet not clear, this will be only possible after the IIT council meeting.

This idea has come from some eminent faculty members of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). This idea is aimed at checking the multi-million IIT coaching industry and to take IIT-level teaching to more students, as per various reports.

Qualifying JEE Advanced and taking admission in IIT B.Tech courses are considered almost a sacred deal. However, puts a bit of more pressure on some candidates. Thus, the idea further suggests that admission in IIt can be based on JEE Main scores only. The top candidates of JEE Main can be admitted to the IITs without any further tests or interviews. Also, the idea adds that the JEE main results should classify all candidates into 10 groups based on marks range with all students in one range (say 80%-90%) treated as equal.

IITs are basically working towards transforming themselves into high-end education provider of the nation and this idea is in that regard. Now, as per this idea, the B.tech programme at IITs is to be changed with one semester IIT experience.

Admission to this semester-long experience into IITs will be for the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th semesters of the B Tech programme (i.e., for the third and fourth year) and will be based on the performance in an examination based on NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning).

Students will enroll in this one semester IIT experience, will get degrees issued by their universities which explicitly mention the IIT semester experience. Such students will also get a preferential admission into IITs to do an M.Tech degree, given that they complete their bachelor’s degree with high marks.

What are your opinions – Is this idea feasible? Let us know what are your thoughts on this in the comment section below.

Scrapping jee advanced not at all good idea , it’s like nullifying growth of the country because of lack of competition. Instead , increase the employment opportunities , keeping in mind growthof the country

    Jai hind !

Serioulsy removing advance is a decision to be made,I think that some decision is to be made on the reservation system

So there are a lot of shitty people thinking that this is gonna ruin the quality of IITs. Even I was among those when I heard of it first. Let me tell you this- Only those who get the top scores in the JEE mains exam can qualify the JEE Advanced, and get a spot in the IITs. So basically, scrapping the latter off would not make a difference. No student will score a poor mark in the Mains and still get the Top rank in Advanced. Lol!. Currently the JEE advanced is for only those who have a lot of memory power. Please understand that there are a lot who are very brilliant, but just can’t store so much in their brains. So let’s accept the change guys, we’ll see. After all, we need a good engineer out of the IITs, not a 1TB hard disk!

superb idea g7 countries donot encourage this foolish coaching business the socalled iitians just join acoaching institute tomake money india needs toplevel hard core engineers these iit products never join manufacturing industries iits should train only those who will enhance the productivity level of industries tothink that this unethicalfraud coachinginstitutes improve the iq of the student islike depending on burglars tolearn the art of opening locks iamsure the coaching fellows cannot recall any of of their professional subjects

Quality will be sacrificed and quantity will be increased, and nobody will welcome such useless engineers

Sometimes a very bad Thing happens near us, this thing is nearer to it.admission of sc, st and obc without their percent as level as open category ,will make iit worst, as they are filling in most of the college, iit are excluded. But this will happen in iit it will make it worse,,so please dont do that….

Along with the degradation in the ranking of IIT’s it will also affect the products of the IIT. It will be an ordinary government institute and the iit aspirants may fall in coming years.
And for the idea of producing more and more smart engineers, the government can give more admissions in IITs for the rankers lower than 10000 in jee advanced.
So i don’t think 🤔 this as a good idea. JEE ADVANCED MUST BE THERE AS IN PAST YEARS.

It seems the entire proposal is on a premise that IIT teaching makes students what they are, which may be only partially correct…The IIT students are what they are, as only the few best are selected and they are highly motivated and rated as such.

The only institution which is making India proud is going to be doomed. IIT Alumni to come fwd before damage is done…IIT students are like teams selected through qualifying rounds to world up soccer and only the best are seen…

That is a wonderful idea; this will help india bring in another 70000 well trained IIT in the same span of time were only 10000 students are admitted now ; this will help india build faster then any other country India will be the number one IT hub in the world and we can source job 🙂

This is just like killing holy cow!!! Changing basics of IIT is tantamount to degrade the prestige and glory of these institutions.its UG student of IITS which have won Laurel all over the world.

Scrapping JEE advanced is the worst idea. And Increasing the number of seats in iit will result in loss of IIT’s prestige. Instead of this try to remove reservations so that everyone can get equal opportunities to make their way into IIT’s.let getting into IIT’s be decided by a student’s hardwork and not by his caste.

  13. Asritha says:

This is most worst idea I have ever heard. The IIT’s are very prestigious colleges in India and have a greater value.
Now disposing of JEE Advanced is thoughtless idea. If this idea is implemented, then IIT education will become one of the worst.
So, Please make changes which upgrade our education system but not degrading it.

Kindly let JEE Advanced to be continued.

And think once about the students who have left their NIT+ system seats and took long term only because of the reason that they want to study in IIT.

So, the people who have proposed this idea Kindly think about it once more.

  14. Vaibhav says:

Looks like the country’s getting more backward.Instead of removing evils like reservations in the education system, they are encouraging more and more lethargy among the fellow “iit” aspirants. No wonder lack of perseverance and workmanship are ravaging the country

  15. Deepika says:

It is really a bad idea to remove jee advanced. For a student like me who is struggling to get admission in IIT Delhi for past two years feels like everything is snatched from me. I have taken drop because I really want to do B tech from IIT only. Crushing the such dream of many similar students is not a good idea. We are preparing for jee advanced because we really want to have IIT for B. Tech.
So this proposal for “removing Jee advanced exam” should be rejected .
Removal of Btech courses from IITs is really degrading engineering education in our country.
