National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) has released the admission and entrance exam details for academic session 2020-21. The prospectus has been published at nift.ac.in with the complete admission guideline, and most important of all, the dates schedule.
NIFT 2020 registration will start tomorrow, on October 23, 2019. The last date for online registration will be December 31, 2019. However applications will be accepted until January 4, 2020, with late fee. Simultaneously, a window for correction in application form will be given from January 1 to 4, 2020. The written exam, which candidates refer to as the NIFT entrance exam 2020, will be held on January 19, 2020.
Before exam, the admit card for written exam for all UG and PG programs will be released on January 10, 2020. And after exam, there will be a window, from January 22 to 24, 2020, in which candidates will be able to submit their objections to the exam held and their answer keys. Result shall be announced in February or March, date for the same is not fixed yet.
Foreign nationals, SAARC, NRIs, OCI can register for the admissions from April 30, 2020.
Final results shall be announced in May-June 2020, Then counselling will be held thereafter.
To register for NIFT 2020, one has to visit nift.ac.in, fill and submit the online application form. The application fee for general, OBC, EWS candidates is Rs 2000. For SC, ST, PWD, the fee is Rs 1000.
NIFT offers bachelor’s programs B.Des, B.F.Tech; masters programmes M.Des, MFM, and M.FTech. They are offered at campuses in Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Kannur, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi, Patna, Raebareli, Shillong, Kangra, Jodhpur, Bhubaneswar, Srinagar.
There are a total of 4,297 seats. Bachelor of Design (B.Des) seats are: 642 in Fashion Design (FD), 168 in Leather Design (LD), 600 in Accessory Design (AD), 558 in Textile Design (TD), 296 in Knitwear Design (KD), 598 in Fashion Communication (FC). Then the seats in Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech.) are 518 in Apparel Production (AP). Master of Design (M.Des.) has 171 seats, Master of Fashion Management (M.F.M) has 606, and in Master of Fashion Technology (M.F.Tech.) there are 140 seats.
Admission to B.Des shall be on the basis of creative ability test (CAT – 50%), general ability test (GAT – 30%), and situation test (20%). For B.FTech, there will be GAT. M.Des admission shall be through CAT (40%), GAT (30%), GD/PI (30%). MFM admissions require GAT (70%) and GD/PI (30%). For M.FTech admission will be through GAT (70%), GD/PI (30%).
Written exam for all programs will be conducted in 32 cities on the third Sunday in the month of January next year. B.Des CAT, M.Des CAT, BFTech GAT, MFTech GAT, MFM GAT will be held from 10 am to 1 pm. B.Des GAT, M.Des GAT will be conducted from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm.
